Hey guys! Need some help on this Shermy I'm building. Tamiya Sherman M4A3 105mm inf. support. It in regards to the rear area near the exhaust pipes. Tamiya loves to leave the underside of their shermans all open, I have closed off from the rear bulkhead (the part the exhaust comes out of, not sure if that is what is called). But my problem lies beyond that. There is that little/big grate thing, I'm assuming that is the air intake?? Anyway I am trying to figure out how I can go about closing it up so you can look from beneath the tank and see that gaping hole. Any reference pics you guys know of would Kick @$$!! I have the Squadron book on the Sherman couldn't see any good close ups. Any help you guys can be would be great.!!

Jason:

The part you are refering to is not an air intake, but is an exhaust deflector.

Here is a great page from Mike Canaday on detailing the exhaust deflector, as well as photos of the real thing: http://mmcalc.tripod.com/Shermans/M4A3_exhaust_deflector/Exhaust_deflector.htm

Of course, it's a Tripod hosted site, so there are a ton of pop-ups

Thanks Hollow point!! That's exactly what I was lookin' for. I realized my mistake about it being a air intake after I checked out the "Easy 8" Sherman we have here at Fort Meade Maryland. (If anyone might like pictures, I might be able to snag the wife's camera long enuff to take some pictures, we also have an M41 Walker Bulldog and an M47, there are a couple of other APC types but I'm not sure what they are. Let me know).
