Have a 90mm (MK 3) version of Centurian. Looking to do a British version cira Korean War or later. What is a good MOdel Master enamel color. PLease no gunze Sanyo / Tamiya / WEM colors. I only use MM enamels as they are easy to come by at my LHS. Thinking something like the Field Drab (close to Khaki) or the Green Drab (btwn OD and Dark green color)colors

Hi Steve
By the time of the Korean War, Cents would have been painted the Deep Bronze Green that mistakenly gets cited for WW2 British armour. It's a darker colour than OD and without a brown component, but I'm not sure which MM colour approximates.

Hi Steve,
Not being familiar with the range of paints you have mentioned but I suspect your latter option would be a better choice. As long as you lean toward a darker green and not to a light olive drab. Going for a Korean war Centurion will give you the option of some decent weathering which would lighten the tone somewhat. If, however, you choose a Berlin based Centurion then these vehicles were kept pristine and used (according to the New Vanguard book) a US green paint scheme which would be a slightly different shade than the standard British AFV scheme.
Which kit are you building? I'm currently building the AFV club Aussie Centurion & have the 1973 Israeli Shot in the pipeline.
Hope this helps.

I have the Modelcraft Mk 3. I haven't decided what my next project is. I am still pretty deep into the Trumpeter BR 52. I have it almost assembled. Looking at painting it as well as all that roadbed (have a ton of that as I am going to attach 3 cars carrying loads). Then looking for a down and dirty project more than likely the Centurian or the Tamiya Chieftain. Then time to tackle one of my big 350 scale ships. I want to do the Nagato, but still waiting for a reasonable PE set to come out for it so it looks like I'll take on "the Mighty Hood"

Steve
Try this link for a Humbrol cross reference site It lists any other paint brands that would be the equal to Humbrol Some other paint brands don't match up to Humbrol
Testors MM is on the far right For MM version of Humbrol 75,bronze green is MM 6031 Hope that helps

Deep Bronze Green should fill the bill. Humbrol used to offer it in their enamel line (just labeled Bronze Green, but they didn't offer the two lighter shades used in the prewar era), as well as a spray can, but I don't know about their current line. Perhaps White Ensign offers it.
By the way, the Cent never carried a 90 mm. It's a 20 pounder , which had an 83 mm bore. The Modelcraft kit is a knockoff of the old Tamiya kit, which was compromised dimensionally for motorization. The molds are not as crisp as Tamiya's, so fit is mediocre. The AFV Club Cents are a much nicer experience.

Chad:
Thanks for the chart, but 6031 is someone else's color. There is no MM equivelent. All their paint colors start with a 1 or a 2.. I'm just going to go with either green drab or Dark Green and not worry about it.
Gerald.
I got this real cheap. Just looking for a representative piece to go in my European modern armor collection.

My face is red Steve That 6031 is an RAL color A dark green would be better than green drab Green drab is close to olive drab
