Hey

Just wondering since I have so many modeling plans for when I get home from my tour of duty

Has anyone tried painting the ACU or my branch's new ABU pattern

If so, can you give me some tipes for a realistic way of painting to achieve the look

Thanx

If you're up for a different type of challenge, you may want to consider using the cammo decals from Shinsengumi, which are designed for use on figures. I haven't used them yet, but the examples shown on their web site look pretty good. Here is a link to the ACU pattern at HLJ. I just bought a couple of sets (BDU and DCU) from HLJ and will hopefully get them soon.

I know Pete Becerra had a really good-looking ACU figure on one of his Strykers a while back. He describes the technique he used (and the paints) in this thread . Unfortunately the images are no longer visible.

Here is another discussion of the subject on a different forum.

To me, painting ABUs would appear similar to just painting on tiger stripes for a Vietnam character but only with ACU-like colors. I've only seen the uniform in passing, but depending on how the uniform is set up, some modification may be necessary when using figures meant for BDUs and DCUs - ie pockets and such.

Best of luck getting home safely.

No sense in trying to replicate the ABU in digital paint scheme since it looks like tigerstripes already. may be better to paint it as such.
just my 2 centavos...
