Here some quick and crappy shots of the dio base I am building...
Sandbags too big? I may have to redo them...
I plan on having one of the overturned barrels having leaked oil everywhere.
Idea is Desert Afrika with a P4 going past an abandoded Allied outpost.
What should I add? take away move etc?
Oh and flora is incomming after I give it a base coat of colour.
Thanks for looking!

Nice work I like the different levels. It would be nice to have a german soldier checking out the MG post.
Not sure if the 8th Army used the Browning MG. It could work as a US outpost in Tunisia but then you'd have to lose the PIAT and the Sten gun - I'm not sure either of those made it to North Africa anyway.

That is a great idea, I will definitely look for a good pose for the soldier.
hmm yeah I'm not an expert on the Africa campaign by any means and I thought I'd might as well go with the Brits since they were the most dominant Allied faction there.
I could always replace the PIAT with a Bazooka and the Sten with a Thompson or BAR so no biggie
Thanks for the reply!

i really like the elevation and the exposed rocks. Reminds me alot of a map i played on in Call Of Duty 2...
Anywho, you couldnt go wrong with some scattered helmets, weapons, debris, ect. Also, I do think your sandbags look a little big, but i assume you could just paint them gray and make them rocks.

I'd keep the abandoned weapons to a minimum, maybe a single M-1 Garand and some personal gear; helmet, web belt with canteen, etc... I know it's fashionable to show several weapons and equipment left behind, but it isn't accurate.

I like it! Looks pretty darn good with the multi-levels, something unique. Have to mention it as well, looks like the sandbags are a tad too large, but hey, they look good around the gun emplacement. Looking forward to seeing your next set of progress pics! Thanks for sharing your work!

Recall Hunphrey Bogart's Sahara. They dismount the Browning light machine (I know you are using the water cooled one) for use against the nasty Germans. Great movie. The .30 I see in your photo looks like it is overwhelming the tank in size. Maybe, you could dig here into the sand bag enclosure. I like the color of your base, what did you use.

Got some paint on the Base and I'm liking the the Sandbags right now, even if they are a little over sized.
Foliage has been added since, very sparse though since it is the desert
P4 is completely built, tracks were finished today... just need to head back to the paint booth.

Coming along well. Couple things though. The sandbags are hugely oversized; about 3 times too big. It would be bettre to paint them up as rocks, throw a few smaller rocks in and among them and blend it all in. Also, you wouldn't see wooden floors in hastily built figting positions, especially in the desert.

Looks really great. The layout of the scene is very good.
I would go with Gino on the sandbags. They look very very big. To convert them to rocks could be a solution.
The wooden planks could be there, but they could also be covered with a thin layer of dirt to hide them.
Looking forward to see more.

Hahaha, thanks for the complement! This is my first real Dio base (only done a vignette) so that is very encouraging to hear

I like the lay out with different elevations. The only thing that sort of bothers me is that the machine gun is facing in the same direction as the tank is traveling. Might look more interesting with the tank traveling towards the gun. As if it had broken through the defenses.

Did most of the detail painting with the .30cal MG and assorted gear. I've decided to keep the 1 ton sandbags They've grown on me
I experimented with the Salt chipping method, but went wayyyyy overboard... it looked pretty decent, but was just overkill so I covered it up again with Dark Yellow and I plan to just brush paint the chips as I would normally.
I've finished up the oil spill and I am very pleased with how it came out
.
Pics will come soon once I troubleshoot my camera

Great work, Jason.
One observation though: the barrel platform seems to be in the firing range of the MG. If gunner turns the MG more to his right, he would eventually hit fuel barrels on the platform, wouldn’t he… I mean, the platform should be behind the perimeter, not within.
But again, very nice base otherwise...

Managed to get some pics... wanted to get a shot of the Pv4 and Base together but the batteries gave out.
Base is done, just needs some touch ups on the edges, P4 has decals on and the first Van dyke brown wash and weathering can now commence.
Thanks for looking

Hey Jason,
I like your Pz.Kpfw. IV but just a couple of nit picks.
You should add retaining bars or brackets to the track links on the glacis plate, they look like they're just stuck on with glue!!
I may be just the photo but your muffler looks very orange and shiny and should probably be a little darker, oxide red.
Anyway, everything else in your diorama is certainly coming along, looks very good.
Cheers

p.s. where are situated in B.C. ??
