I'm not sure if this has already been posted or discussed, but I came across this: Tamiya 1/35 German Infantry set 'French campaign'
Now is it me, or are the poses identical to their very first German figure set (with the addition of a loader for the MG34)? At first I thought they were trying to pull a fast one by re-boxing old figures, but from the images they look like they may be quite a decent set.
Is this one of Tamiya's deals with another company to produce other figures under the Tamiya brand? Otherwise they seem to be a lot better sculpted than the French Infantry set they recently released.
Anyway i'd be interested in peoples thoughts.
James

Most Tamyia figures seem a bit too stiff and the boots usually look like clumps of plastic. The seam lines are pretty bad also. I'd still go with Dragon or one of the former Soviet bloc outfits like Master Box or Mini Art for decent figures in 1/35th - they seem to be the best around.

I am not big on Tamiya figures, but if your are going to make a diorama and need to poulate your scene, they are the ticket. Relatively inexpensive and easy to build. So you kinda mass produce them and scatter them in the building ot whatever. If you plan on putting two or three crew men on a tank, I use Alpine or Verlinden. They are distinct and do not distract from the model.
My two cents.

This set is a new tool version based on the poses of the decades old original set.
My understanding is that they can be asssembled as is to re-create the original poses or the parts can be swapped around (with the help of another set or two) to form new poses.

Hi James,
Yeah, I thought exactly the same thing when I saw this a couple of weeks ago, that the poses were "very" familiar.
The new figures definately look like Tamiya have decided to do a "re-imaging or retcon" of their 1st figure set.
They look much better molded than most of Tamiya's recent kits, guess we'll have to wait and see what the reviews say.
Cheers
