Please bear with me on this as I am completely ignorant, especially on the subject of modern vehicles. What I am wanting to know is what HMMWV kit would I need to buy to be able to build Sgt. Colberts vehicle? It doesnt have to be 100% perfect, but I would like something that looks like the appropriate vehicle. I will also be needing to know where to get ahold of the MK.19 and any other particular pieces of equipment that you experts have seen on this vehicle in the series. Thank you very much ahead of time for any and all info.

I think it is a M1043 armament carrier.

The Tamiya M1025 kit would be a good starting point....it comes with the Mk.19 as well.

The most obvious changes would be the supplemental armour on the outside and the radios on the inside.....do an internet search as there is plenty of reference material to be found on the M1043.

Don't know how it will turn out but I thought that it would be a fun build. I was thinking about doing the scene from the latest episode where Cpl. Person is trying to make MRE cookies and gets warned not to set his face on fire again. Either that or when he gets out of his vehicle and yells at everybody to "back the **** up"

You need to add a Blue Force Tracker in the passenger side and Pro Arts makes one.

I scratched built mine using the manuals I have here at work before Pro Arts came out with theirs.

And if I'm not mistaken, he had the older style radio's mounted in it and not a SINCGAR, so the kit radio will work just fine.

Pete, you're close, but no cigar. They had the older SINCGARS ICOM, full width across the radio tray. Not the SINCGARS ASIP as you made, nor the older VRC-160 (vehicle mount PRC-77) as comes in the Tamiya kit. No kit has SINCGARS ICOMs (or ASIP), so you still need the Pro Art SINCGARS set.

I haven't seen the series yet since I do not have HBO and am sitting in the Sandbox right now

I have read the book about six times now and have been contemplating building that same Humvee

Looking at the pics, I cannot see any additional armor on theirs, looks like a bare bones M1025 witha ton of stowage and a MK19. But that is my observation with the book right next to me. Book also mentions that their Humvees were scrounged up and given to them

Yea so an M1043 is what you want. Best way is to combine Tamiya's M1025 and M1046 together. I say the 1046 because they have the supplemental armor doors, but pretty much everything else you'll use from the 1025 kit. I guess you could also scratch the armor over the kit doors. And like others say, you'll want Pro Arts amazing SINCGARs set. Also getting Tamiya's Modern accessories set for added packs and items can also be useful. They are still using ALICE packs and items so you are good to go there.

Pete, while I haven't really been looking, I don't think they added the BFT antenna anywhere on the set humvee. I'm gonna have to go back and look again. But the display for sure is in there like you said.

OK

I am confused, are you trying to build the one from the series, or the one in the book, cause I see some big differences in what people are describing

Just some clarification as tis is a project I am starting when I get back

Well in that rear shot, it shows that the later mount is no on the rear (see the second picture I've provided.

Here is an example of early fittings. The BFT antenna is the cream colored box mounted above the windshield. I've seen this on other vehicles so is plausible that it'd be here too.

Here is how they were fitted in a more permanent mount:

IMHO I wouldn't as far as calling it Hollywood. Maybe the propmasters never got around to it, who knows? But the fact that their military advisors include guys who were in the unit adds tremendous credit in my mind about the accuracy of the vehicles and equipment. I'm sure certain things were done to allow for ease of production - especially with the camera work - but I believe that Reyes and Kocher did their very best in making this look as close as possible.

For now thats it. Don't expect the History channel to be running it anytime soon, and with the splendidly captured vulgarity, frankly don't expect it ever. Best bet is to wait for the DVD collection. With the mini-series nearing its end, jumping in now may easily leave a viewer scratching their head.

anybody know a good place to get the pro arts set? I tried searching the net, but I dont know if I searched the wrong thing or what cause I couldn't find it. Also any preferences on where to get the actual HMMWV kits? I'm having trouble locating them in stock without having to pay an arm and a leg as well as a future payment of my first born child.

[ur]www.blast-models.com[/url] is also a good vendor for Pro Art items. Their own production line includes a bunch of humvee items but most are for later humvees. Prices are good, service is good (though make sure to confirm the purchase in the confirmation email or they won't send it to you). The oversees shipping prices suck but I also don't mind paying a little extra for quality and satisfaction.
