Hello friends,
I like to share with you this figure and its finishing with oil paints.
This is the figure right after priming :
I'll try to update from time to time.

Hi Guy,
Long time eh mate!
I'll be following this one with interest, Alpine figures are the best on the market.
If your past figures are anything to go by, this one should be a little gem!
Do you use Tamiya surface primer on all of your figures?
Cheers,
Shay

Hello Shay, long time no see my friend !
To answer your question, I have Mr Surfacer too, but now I applied Tamya. I thinned it down very well, to avoid detail lost. I hope I can bring this figure to an acceptable level.
Are you still into modelling Shay ?

Update 2 :
What I like to do after priming is to brush on a burnt umber wash, it makes detail more visible and detects imperfections. To make deeper folds stand out more, I add the same wash, but a bit darkened with black. With a bit of broken white (burnt sienna to break) I paint the eyes. Now everything must dry well.
Photos :
I can hardly wait to carry on with this top quality Alpine figure !

thanks

Hi DJ,
I must say, it was nearly a perfect fit between the parts of the figure (really top quality in my opinion). For this result, I filled the "gaps" by using Milliput Standard.
Just a very small amount on a tooth pick was enough. A wet brush (water) gave it its smooth finish. It softens de Milliput and what remains is a perfect fit.
I hope I helped you my friend.
Greetz Guy.

Hi Guy!
nice to see you start on a Alpine Figure (never seen one in real life, but what I see and read on the internet, this must be truly top notch!!!) Looking forward for more of the paint job!

Hello Jelger, nice to see you here man ! The Alpine figures are without a doubt one of the best there are on the market. It's fun to paint this guy.
Update 3 :
Today I have added a very thin first color layer. 80/20 White spirit/ paint.
These colors are only my first indication. After this stage it can all begin !
And now for something completely different !!!
Recently I bought a book for my militaria collection, but it's also a great help to finish figures. Really everything about GI equipment, gear, clothing, weapons, patches, ranks, armoured troops, airborne troops, pathfinders, rangers,...just name it and it's there. Government Issue, Collectors Guide. Author is Henri Paul Enjames.
Tomorrow next update. G.

Calvin, the brown I used for the first layer of paint was burnt sienna. I can make it darker whenever I want during the painting process. For the Thompson gun I used black and a bit of ultramarine blue to give it a kind of metal impression. The colors I have are all ordinary artist's oil paints. Thank you for the reply.
Taesung, I'm glad you like it, it means a lot to me. You're the Artist of this fantastic little fellow ! Thank you !
John, this is the figure for my M3A1 Stuart indeed ! Thanks !

Update 4 :
Layer 2 was added, again very thin, Boytt Colt holster, belt, shoes, weapon, ammo pouch, face and hands...
The folds and plies were done to create the beginning of contrast. I did this by making dark shadows (the usual base made darker by mixing more ultramarine blue and a touch of black).
Tomorrow next step.
Questions ? Remarks ? Share it with me please.

Nice wok G man!
I like your approach to painting the figure. Kind of build it up layer by layer...
Remember that the gaiters aren't green, (even though they officially are designated as a shade of OD) but come up as a tan or khaki colour.
Are you including the sling for the Thompson?
Cheers
Brad

Hey Brad, about the gaiters, that is a correct remark, I will work to the definitive colors in stages, layer after layer. The wood of the gun for example, is not ready yet. This way of painting figures works well for me. For the colors of the equipment, clothing, shoes..., I have bought a book : Government Issue, by Henri Paul Enjames. Hundreds of photos for reference. The sling will be glued on after the paintwork.
Thank you for your remark my friend, I'll do the best I can, and when painting the gaiters, I'll remember your words.

Robby, thank you.
Next update :
I have painted the detail of all the items : helmet, holster, belt, clothing, gaiters...
The hands and face were practically finished by adding very thin oil paint.
Shadows of plies and folds painted in different tones...
I hope you like it !
A couple more hours to go and this project will come to an end.
Greetz G.
Next update hopefully tomorrow.

Watching this figure evolve layer by layer is quite interesting. The eyes in particular are very well done.

More contrast, more detail painting started (almost there).
Still to do :
- finishing the smallest details,
- laquers.
- gun sling.
