I had never seen this kind of stains on the side of M978, specialy because of those triagular walls.
I´m I right or this is totaly possible? It´s amazing for a model, but my doubt is about this effects being realistic or not.
Bye,
Marcelo

It's not Marcelo's model: http://www.missing-lynx.com/gallery/modern/abm978.htm
I think he is just asking if it is a realistic look. I would think the fuel would flow around the triangular fillets, but would seep around them too, so maybe not so much in the middle. I think dust would soon collect making it very thick, not transparent (unless it is portraying a fresh spill?)

Spills like that can happen....but as Jim says they dust over and change colour and lose their sheen.
Diesel fuel for sure takes on a brown colour when dust and dirt cover over it.
It is realistic.....but it could have diminished as it got lower along the tank and became more dust encrusted.

I did something similar to my HEMTT fueler. I asked a couple of vets and they indicated this did happen at times.

I have to agree with most. A spill that big wuld be extremely rare. I would have focused mainly on the pipe /filler-cap junture and as I worked down the side making it less and less wide. Also would go darker as the fellas say. the dust and dirt would mix with the spill and leave their mark on the tank. But it does look really good and the rest of the vehicle does not appear to be over-done. At least they didn't put chipped up rust everywhere which seems to be the current popular trend in model decoration.

Hi everybody!
As Jim Carswell wrote, it´s not my model. I just took the picture from a website as an example, since I intend to model one soon.
Thanks a lot for your answers. I also think a little overdone this kind of spill. I´d like to see a picture of this stains, that flow under the triangular walls and not around them.
I´ll prefer to add little stains and the base will be more dusty
By the way, the model is very very well done and will sure be an inspiration for me But before that, I´ll have to find time to finish my M1114, specialy now that my doughter is to birth this or the other week
Bye,
Marcelo

Apart from the "spill" the rest of the wear is very well done. Nice!
