I’ve recently become fascinated by the Spanish Civil War of 1936-1936. Can anyone tell what tanks Spain’s national government might have used against Franco and his fascist forces? Are any good kits of those tanks available? If anyone can direct me to a good reference site or book I’d be very grateful.

Take care,
Noah

http://www.mbltd.info/models1.htm
Pz.1A mod. "Breda" /3503/ scale 1:35

And also some russian early WWII tanks were used, I'm not sure which versions (BT-7 maybe), I don't have the references here, some experts might point you in the right directions

You can take a look here for some info : http://mailer.fsu.edu/~akirk/tanks/spain/Spain-2.html
Several 1/35th scale T-26 kits are available (Mirage, RPM, Zvezda/Italeri). Zvezda has also released a BT-5 and a BA-6 armored car...

Hi Noah,
The Spanish Civil War is a period of history I find very interesting also. Bison makes a set of decals for Nationalist tanks, and there are lots of references available, but for some reason, illustrations of Republican vehicles are extremely rare. I've heard that some of their tanks were painted with red, yellow and purple stripes, which sounds very colorful; it would be cool to build one of these vehicles. They also had scrawled slogans on them, sometimes, saying "Smash Fascism!" or whatever (I don't know how to say it in Catalan or Spanish).
The Republicans had some BT-5s, T-26s, BA-6s, BA-20s, and some old FT-17s. Good luck with your project.

I think Frenchy beat me to the punch on this one....but just in case, here is what i found.

It looks like the Germans sent in a bunch of PzKw I's, some of which were modified to carry a 20mm Breda gun. Spain also bout a dozen FT-17's from France in the 1920's that were probably in play.

One source indicated the best tank in the fray was the Russian T-26.

Dave

Hi again,
Want to build a Republican armored car? Great Models has the Eastern Express 1/35 EX15328 BA-6 Command Armored Car shown in Republican service, with red, yellow and purple stripes on the turret. Some Eastern Express kits don't include decals, but this scheme wouldn't be hard to mask off and paint. Unfortunately, this kit is not in stock. But now that you know what to look for, maybe you can find one somewhere else. Also, the Eastern Express BA-6 35127 has decals for a Republican vehicle also, but less colorful, with hand-painted slogans.
