Hi all,

German helmets that were white during wintercampaigns, were these originally German grey and then painted white? Or were these supplied as being originally white ones?

Hey Jeiger,
From what I've read and seen in photos, the German painted their helmets grey or later dark yellow at the factory.
During Winter months, they were given a coat of whitewash much like their vehicles.

Needed the info for the order of painting white helmets. Now I will first paint the helmets their original colour and than put a white wash over it.

Does anyone have some typical examples (photo's) of whitewashed helmets?

What I've seen many times, is that the helmet is painted white and heavy chipped in the base color.
