Found these photos from an amateur photographer in South Ossetia show some very interesting photos of military forces engaged there. There is one photo in particular that is a bit disturbing, I think it's a body but I can't be sure so if the thought of that makes you sick then don't go. My take from the photos is mainly that russian tanks burn as well as they ever did, I wouldn't get in one ever.

Maybe somebody will find something interesting for a project in these photos, at the very least they provide a fascinating look at the conflict.

Man. Scary to see the distruction. Were those Russian tanks or Georgian that were so thrashed? I mean, both use them... so anyone venture a guess?

HI Andrew and Mike!
As discussed in other forums too, those burned-out tanks are georgian. I think ukrainian-build and in some kind modified.
Best regards,
Andreas

Tragic conflict - as all conflicts are
However, very interesting pictures from a modellers point of view. A lot of different camouflage schemes employed by the Russian and Georgian forces. Also interesting that both sides uses similar or very similar equipment.
Here are some pictures I found on the net that shows different kind of markings and camouflage.
If anybody has any other armour pictures (not destruction, casualties etc. as this is not really modeler related - and would probably be another forum) - maybe this tread could be a good place to share them as inspiration for future modelling projects.

An amazing set of photos, thanks for sharing,
Truly reveals some of the horrors of war, however, I feel that this is only the tip of the iceberg of what has really gone on over there.
One thing I wondered, there must be some problems with blue on blue fire and misidentification over there, as both sides are using Russian armour and equipment.

Well, another reason you never want the Germans or Russian to invade your country. The steamroller effect...tragic.

Yes, there must be a lot of difficulties. Look at these pictures below. The two top ones are of Georgian tanks. The two lowest pictures are Russian tanks. It is extremely difficult to tell the differences. There are some differences in the position of the reactive armour blocks, but that seems to be it.
Maybe some Russian armour experts can sheed more light on any differences?

I think the burnt body in the street is a goat. If you look closely, it looks like the horns are in the middle and the bone structure of the leg in the upper right looks like an animal leg.
Are the vehicles with the graffitti the Chechens that we have been hearing about?

Sure hope those guys did not ride into battle with those flags flying. That would have simplified the national identity crisis real soon!

Scott-- well, if the 1945 Battle of Berlin is any benchmark, the Russia fratricide rate is amazing! Shoot anything that moves, indiscriminate artillery fire, etc.....I don't think they have cleaned up their act that much. From a tactical point of view, it will be interesting to see how they swarmed the country. Their history (Manchuria, Budapest) would indicate they appreciate the term "overwhelming force."

Hi! It is a photo - result of ammunition explosion . A tower has broken and has rejected on a roof of a building. A roof has punched together with overlappings(blockings)
