how do you paint modern periscopes
Posted: Saturday, August 23, 2008 - 04:18 AM UTC
Hi all,
just a quick question, how , and with what colour do you paint the lenses of periscipes on modern armour.
So far i have used emerald green, with a couple of coats of gloss varnish, but it just doesnt look 100% right.
Any advice would be of great help.
cheers,
malc.

I use thin red, green or blue mirrored plastic. It is that annoying stuff you occasionally get in wedding and party invites that falls everywhere and you have to sweep up.
Cut small rectangles and glue in place with PVA glue. Looks good to me.

I will see if I can find a picture of something I've done that has it on there.
Not a good picture but you can see the thin red mirrored plastic around the commander's cupola in my Abrams.

For the longest time,I have been painting them aluminium to start and then using Tamiya clear paints to finish.
I use the same method for lights and it works quite well.
I do like Frenchy's idea and will try it in the future.

The confetti method works very well......but only use it on AFVs that have the laser reflective periscopes.
Try using Testors Jade green for regular armoured glass......check out these results.....

thanks all,
sounds like the coloured wrapping paper is the way forward, I`ll give it a try, and will keep you all posted.
