Heya, Folks,
Trying to plow forward on finishing my M88 --- inspired by a picture of an actual vehicle in Vietnam, this one sports twin .50s up front and twin M60s facing aft.
Does anyone have any close up pictures of the ammo box mount for the M60...? This is the typical mount you might see on Dusters, jeeps, and occassionally the M113.
There are a number of pictures in the VLS mini-book on the M42 Duster (currently on sale at Squadron for a buck, by the way), but alas, no close up shots... As mentioned, I want to build the rear-facing M60s each with an ammo box so I have to build the "chutes" (sorry if my terminology is off) that the ammo boxes slide into for each machine gun. I'm looking for any close ups or detail photos as I'd like to make mine reasonably accurate.
As always, many thanks!
Regards and Aloha,
Johnny B.

my suggestion is for you to visit the First Armored Cav's website. Another good one is the 3rd of the 4th Cav and also the 1st of the 4th Cav. The real problem is that your going to see lots and lots of home brew setups. Cav units liked to swap out the small 7.62 ammo cans for the bigger ones normally seen on an M48. But being as this really a support track that normally didn't hit the bush unless going as a full "troop" sized unit, I doubt that it would have had the bigger ammo boxes. That's what the guys he was running with would have to keep the other guys occupied.

Hey Frenchy, where did you get that first pic? It's from a PBR right?

Big Thanks, guys!
The pix and info are much appreciated and will be of great help. That mount is a little more complicated than I thought it would be --- making two of them will be twice as annoying...
Cool site, Frenchy --- man, you sure can buy anyting on the internet these days... The lower portion of the mount on the PBR's side armor plate looks like the same type utilized on the late-model WWII LVT- (A) 4s when they started mounting .30s on the outside of the turrets... If it ain't broke, don't fix it!
And while I am in asking mode: does anyone happen to have a Vietnam-era picture of two of these being used with twin M60 MGs...? No doubt, a tall order, I know, but this is the place to come for answers...
Thanks again, Folks!
Regards and Aloha,
Johnny B.
PS I hope that life is good, Frenchy!

Unfortunately, the only picture I've found shows a postwar PBR Mk1 fitted with a Mk78 twin 60s gun mount.

Thanks again, Guys!
Chris, you hit it right on the head --- my second request was for pix of improvised twin M60 mounts... This pic is pretty much along the lines of what I was thinking and had done prior to the pix of the more elaborate mount supplied by the always amazin' Frenchy...
So it looks like I can get away with the two pintle mounts on a piece of angle iron and not have to create the more elaborate mount. My second problem, though was how to feed the twin 60s given they were mounted on pintles in front of an open hatch, leaving little room for a mini gun can.
From your photo it looks like there is at least one ammo box sitting on the deck, but from the little I can see, the ammo can itself is not actually mounted to either weapon (interesting to see M60Ds)... Out of pure modeller's laziness, I was hoping that someone might have a photo of a field modified mount (again, feeding from ammo boxes, rather than belts), rather than the elaborate mount Frenchy supplied the pictures of.
As mentioned, a minigun can for the ammo would be too tall to sit behind the twin 60s the way I have them mounted on the rear of the M88's main hull. The two guns are mounted low enough so that someone peeking out of th rear hatch can fire them aft (I really should take a post a picture). Anyway, to make life easier, I'll probably end up throwing a couple of open .30 caliber ammo boxes and belts down below the mount and call it a day .
Thanks again, folks! You ALWAYS rock!
Regards and Aloha,
Johnny B.
PS Good ta hear that all is well, Frenchy --- keep up the good work, amigo!
