Any suggestions for fitting replacement heads onto standard dragon figures? The necks are extra long to accomodate varing applications, but is there a method of measuring and cutting that any of you figure gurus prefer? I'm also concerned about the angle of the cut. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Michael. I dont shorten the neck at all. I drill a small hole into the neck position on the torso, and then with a drill and incresing bit sizes, I clean out a large hole ... and thin down the collar with a knife, to allow me to position the head in whatever way I want. Its better to have the hole too big ... add some putty to position ... than too tight .... which restricts the positioning. Dry fit as often as possible so you dont go too big.

Frank has made it perfectly clear there but with a head thatīs looking up that you would like to look down ( & viceversa) hereīs what I do. Cut & file off the neck as close as you dare to the jaw-line , drill a hole into the head from what you have just cut off. The size of the hole should be just large enough to spear onto a cocktail stick with cyano glue. Donīt cut the stick when itīs glued on. Then build a neck around the stick with epoxy putty , at this stage the length of the neck is un-important. What you have now is something really easy to paint ,add chin-straps & headgear etc. .Then I cut off the excess of the neck on the stick with a circular cutting disc of a hand-drill ( I found that any other method requires extreme care so as not to separate the head from the putty & the stick). Nothing else left now but to slot it into the hole in the body by the method that Frank has already explained. It may seem like a lot to do but itīs a great way to get any head to any torso. One could also apply the same technique to hands by cutting them off & hollowing out the cuffs if you think itīs worth the trouble.

Simon at the start of my last post I said it was my approach to modifying heads that are looking up or down it is also a valid technique for modifying heads that are looking to one side because if you think about it there is a huge gap on one side when one tries to turn it the other way. I donīt always do it because itīs not neccessary ( & it is time consuming) but it is if I want to modify one or two to present something different from the box-art presentation. Really I think I should have made clear that I only do this with plastic heads because normally the resin heads just slot into a hole drilled into the torso then widened out to the collar http://gallery.kitmaker.net/showphoto.php/photo/253282][img]http://gallery.kitmaker.net/500/thumbs/IMGP0262.JPG http://gallery.kitmaker.net/showphoto.php/photo/253277][img]http://gallery.kitmaker.net/500/thumbs/IMGP0256.JPG
