I just started building models again after 8 years or so. I used to do some when i was a kid and recently i found a couple of them that are in pretty good condition except for the painting job and i would like to do a touch up. i was wondering is there anyway to get rid of the paint without damaging the model?

Hey everyone,

I know that the Castrol Super Clean Degreaser works on diecast, takes the paint off pretty well. I hope that it works on 15 y/o Tamiya paint also, since I have an old Bradley bathing in it right now. I needed the interior for M2A2 and the bad brush painting just won't cut it!

Regards,
Chris

Ave first of all welcome aboard the best site around... Be careful removing paint if the kits are very old. Try doing a test on the "hidden" parts of it in order to avoid unpleasant surprises...

Oh yeah, the Castrol Super Clean works like a charm!

It took off the 15 y/o Tamiya paint, plus the 16 y/o Testor's under it! I just let it soak for about 8 hours or so.

Easy Off Oven Cleaner will take off any type of paint usually within a 1/2 an hour....won't harm plastic....resin...metal or clear parts either.......Old paint....new paint....doesn't matter....I find using the pump bottle better than the spray can.
