It looks good clean too!!! I like the scratches in the side skirts.I see you got the extra rack on the back folded,it looks good I just couldn't get mine right. You could add a couple of figures if you want, and i'm sure you will do it, but you should show some bare paint on the jerry can rack and the rear rack .

Gijs,
Just thought you might want a pic showing small arms strikes on the armored side skirts of an Abrams. The skirts with the weld seams around the edges are the thick armor ones and won't indent much when hit with rifle bullets or even small machine gun rounds. The other skirts are made of 3/8" thick steel sheet, so they will indent and show more of a paint chip.

Hi Folks:
Some of you know that this tank was my buddy's tank, and I built it for him using the not so accurate Tamiya kit (before the great DML kit came out) - see my profile which has the link to photos of my build. I won't go into all the details of this particular tank, since that would possibly put a damper on what Gijs wants to do with his own model. But, Gijs, if you want anymore info on such details I am glad to assist.
Anyway, that box on the rear mudflap is a .50 cal box with an inverter in it. Sgt Olson is a coffee lover, and wanted quick access to electricity for his coffee maker. He was afraid to put the inverter inside the turret since there are obvious fire hazards in there, in case of an electrical screw up, so he rigged up this quickfix. Wires go from the ammo box into the rear tailight.
That photo of his tank is one I never knew existed. Much better image of the small arms damage than what I had.
The wooden ammo box was used as a toilet. Those that have watched Generation Kill on HBO might have watched a scene involving such a box. Also, Eduard now sells those 120mm mortar ammo boxes seen on the side of the turret of the real tank.
It's nice to see someone else modeling American Airlines Flight 77.

Hi,
it's a nice and accurate (from what the pictures show) rendition of this peculiar tank. I pretty much like your sense of detailing.
could you give some more explanations about the convincing way you painted the scratches ?
TIA
Olivier

Gijs-- love your work on this beauty. What kit did you use? I'd also like to know your base colors and how you got the paint scrapes to come out so well?
Great work!

@Olivier, DJ
You guys really like the scratches, i actualy had some troughs about it but will leave them
tThe scratches:
the grey colored scratches where added after the decalings so on still clean desert color
the sand colored scratches were added after all the weathering was done, yes dumb me i should have added the earlier
i primed it with Tamiya Dark Yellow and the base color was a mix of different desert colors from Tamiya please don't ask me what the colors where i can't remember
the kit was the dragon AIM kit

OMG, blowing out the air packs... what fun that was...
I'd say that it needs the comms antennas on the back of the turret... Maybe bent over and tied down to the side racks...

In retrospect, this is not AA Flight 77 - the photo is AA Flight 11, apparent by the two white bands, not four. So, the above photo is not the same tank, but a platoon mate's tank. Still, it's a nice photo showing lots of detail.

last time i didn't get many time to build, since i joined the military so i'm only at home at the weekends and even that i seen to can't find the time to build something, but over the last weeks i managed to paint some stowage
the weathering of the stowage is all done by oil paint, somehow pigments dont work with me
it need some more work on the vehicle itself like the wheels, tracks and some dust and than i can make a base to sit on + some figures.

Gijs,
Bob Burik told me that you were creating a model of my tank... I was the tank commander of the tank you are modeling... I just wanted to say that the model looks great and that I am honored that you have choosen my tank... I can't wait to see the final product...
Bob also made a model of my tank that competed in a model convention in Atlanta, GA... and even the local museum has requested to put it on display... He really did a great job...
If you have any questions, just let me know and I will help you as much as I can...
