My first post here so I though't i'd show a couple of pics of my almost complete Dragon SU-100. Painted in Tamiya Acrylics with weathering of Mig Pigments and real mud. This is only the second AFV I've built as I normally model ships in 1/350th scale.

Awesome job, John!!! But there are several "BUTS" that are kind of do "pop in the eye":
1. As far as I know, if this is a vehicle during WW2 there would not be the white outline around the star. Most likely there would be no star at all, just a number.
2. The additional fuel tanks would never be so rusted. Not to mention there is too much rust in general. Those vehicles where taken good care of. Especialy after the war.
Hope, it helps!

Cheers Alex,
I have to be honest, my knowledge of such things is severly limited. The stars were on the decal sheet so I figured it would make it obvious that the tank is Soviet
As for the fuel tanks, you got me there, I rusted them simply for some contrast with the green of the tank

John,
Despite what Alex says (I'm pretty sure he's right about the stars, and he may be right about the rust issue), I still love it.
The overall finish and the groundwork are really nice (it's churning up that track very nicely!), and I love the way you appear to have it going uphill - nice change from the norm there.
To avoid any "rust debate", next time round and in order to get the contrast you were aiming for, you could paint the fuel tanks in a different green tone to make it look like they've been cannibalized from another vehicle. Not too much of a contrasting green - but enough to see a difference.
Just a suggestion.

It's been a while since my last post but a couple of things have changed since then. The fence has been completely replaced as I wasn't happy with the original, the tank has undergone a lot more weathering with oils and the commander has been painted. I've decided I'm going to add a couple more figures riding on the tank:

The big red star is unusual but not "wrong". Some soviet AFVs did indeed carry red stars, even though it was not extremely common.
Very nice groundwork. The mud is excellent.

I agree with the others and want to point out the mud is fantastic combined with the way you varied the colors of grass. The tank sis naturally in the groundwork - That's intimating mud that can easily look overdone, so great work. Cheers

Hi John
That's a very fine build you've got there. I specially like the groundwork - That mud looks awesome.
Best regards
Jacob

Hi
Thats a very nice diorama.
Love the mud. Also like the unusual way of displaying the model going up a steep hill instead of a slope.
