Here are some pics of my first attempt at a whitewash paint scheme. It is of the Stug III G Dragon DX 07 Georg Bose edition. I used the hairspray method and these are preliminary photos I still need to do some work on the model. I am asking for some tips on how the chipping and wear looks and any ideas on weathering. I am at a total loss on how to weather a whitewash finish. any help or advice is greatly appreciated

i think it is coming pretty good,I would weather it with a brown/black wash and pigments.A whitewashed tank gets dirty same as a regular vehichle, maybe you might want to make some wet mud for the tracks and running gear also.

Fred, I think your white wash looks just fine. Yep just go ahead and do your dirty
as you would. The mud and how much is up to you.
Somebody is sure to tell you the gun shield can't stand up by it self without the
hatch door holding it up.

Hello Fred:
It looks OK so far, remember, every vehicle was different so ther is no exact amount of over or under wash. I dis the same white wash in this stug IIIB from Dragon a while ago:
If you like the results this is what I did:
-First a base of Model Master enamel german gray, then a coat of semi gloss compatible lacquer.
-After everuthing dryed I airbrushed very thinned white enamel and while still "wet" pulled out some paint with a mineral spirits dampenned piece of cotton cloth.
-Next step after letting it dry for 24 hours, washes of raw umber and van dyk brown oils here and there.
-Next, for the metal look areas I mixed some steel enamel with raw umber oil until the desired tone was obtained and then drybrushed here and there....
I think that was pretty much all what I did?????
Hope it helps.. Mirko

The whitewash looks great! I'm going to have to give that technique a try.
The gun shield, by the way, is supported by the front loaders hatch, otherwise it was laid down forward onto to the top of the superstructure.

thanks for all your comments. unfortunately I did not catch the loaders hatch supporting the gun shield in the instructions in a bit of a quandry over that one. I may just have to put it in the freezer and break the hatch apart to fit it properly. I like the oil wash idea and maybe a little mud on the tracks and lower hull. I have tried the enamel paint and a damp q tip to take some of the white of before on a T34 and man that was easy. I especially like the streaked look on your stug III b may have to go back to that method as the hairspray and "elbow grease" method was more work than I thought it was going to be.
