At the request of several members of the site, I was asked to check with Trumpeter about when we could expect to see the T-62s & BMPs in 1/35th scale.
This morning I got an answer.
The first T-62 is scheduled for release in March 2009 - just after the Nuremberg Show.
The BMP series has been delayed because of re-tooling so don't expect it much before Fall 2009 .
Hope this answers your doubts. In the meantime, there will be more in pipeline which we'll continue to publish on the site!

Oh, I am so happy! Seems like we've been waiting for that T-62 forever. I hope it comes with some cool decals.

Good news all around. Of course, I would have liked to see those T-62s sooner, but better March than never.
Bummer to hear about the delay on the BMP-3s, but I'm hoping that the re-tooling delay is for the best, i.e. the kits are more accurate.
Thanks for checking up on this, Jim.

Yaaaay!
This very day, I've ordered July 94 issue of Fine Scale Modeller to get Cookie Sewell's article on the matter, bracing myself for the long journey through accurizing Tamiya's old T-62a kit.
Talk about timing. I'll be getting one, if not two, of these.
Thanks for the info!

Thank you very much for looking into this Jim.
I am quite happy to wait until March and fall 2009 for ACCURATE good kits. Retooling sounds good to me, again, as long as they end up being accurate. May I stress ACCURATE?

Indeed it is, considering it's already been quite a while since the kits were first announced. But I guess I'd rather wait another 6 months if it means we'll finally have a new kit of the T-62 on the shelves, versus not having the kit produced at all. Ditto with the BMP kits. That doesn't mean that I'm happy with the delays, mind you, but at this point, the situation is what it is.
Just my 2 shekels.

I got a BMP-3 from SKIF, some "enhanced" kit with P/E.
I don't know if it's a 100% accurate, but with the P/E set and a around 20 € I guessed it was a good opportunity... since then I checked some ModelPoint upgrades, I might get a turret with gun barrels, did any of you guys tried these ModelPoint upgrades ?

ModelPoint barrels are excellent and 100% accurate, but you must make your own fittings between barrels, the package includes 2 turned brass barrels only. Dunno about their turret.

Looks impresive!
It looks like it has the slope on the upper rear panel and the slope on the rear plate, am I right?

It is a longer time to wait, but if they get it right in the end it will be worth it.
Hopefully they sell well enough to continue doing more Modern Soviet armor as well.
It's not like we dont have things to build until then is it?
Mike

It looks good,
I assume the turret has the correct height?
Will the turret feature the protrusions for the gun trunions? (The slight bulge immediatly next to the main gun.)
See:

Looking forward to the release.

I wanted to thank GAOYUE for giving us these teaser pictures. I am assuming they are pre-production pieces and that they are indicative of the kit to be released. We are VERY fortunate to have someone who is willing to answer detail questions with photos of the kit and I for one appreciate it. I also appreciate Trumpeter's hard work in getting these kits out ACCURATELY.
That being said, what other variants are Trumpeter going to release on the T-62 chassis?
I would also like to kindly suggest that Trumpeter look over doing BTR-60, -70, or -80 kits (the subject matter really needs to have a MODERN kit made of them AND they have a VERY wide range of variants to stretch out the molds.) The same goes for the BMP-1 and -2.
Finally, maybe this is a bit of a long shot, but Trumpeter doing the MT-LBu series, with all of its variant potential, may also be a big winner.
But, thank you again for your courtesy.

Yes, very interesting. I'll order one when it is out. I'd like to see a new tooling T-55 as well, better if it is a late production T-55 (model 1970), instead of purchasing a Tamiya T-55A and several aftrermarket resin and PE bit for making one of those. Thanks for the pics. Best regards.
