Well, the muffler looks great. Rust on the back deck? I think it is over done. How did you get the rust effect?

I used sophisticated finishes for it.. I think your right I got a little carried away that is why I want you guy's take on it. I almost made the whole thing in rust but luckily I stopped myself I've had this model a few years and its my test bed more or less. I was thinking of it being abandoned for the last 20 yrs in some corner of a forest or something.
Thanks,
Kelly

OK sorry guess I should have said more Its by triangle crafts I found it at Michael's a crafts store I think there is a review of it around here someplace. Basically it is a two part paint one is really thick but goes on really nice with iron in it the other is a solution that will corrode it. neat stuff works on anything. I will try and find the review and put the link here.

Alanmac I actually tried that even ground it up in a rock tumbler to get it real powdery but could not get it to stick and look right.

Kelly-- I have the same stuff and it never comes close to the effect you achieved. How thick do you put on the first application?
thanks

there would obviously not be this much rust on a working vehicle, but i understand it is just a testbed
i think your rust looks really good.

I put on varying degrees of it the muffler was fairly heavy the side armour was light to med. I wanted a streaked effect, and let it sit for 24hrs then gave it multiple coats of the corrosive allowing at least 12 to 24 hours between coats of that. just a single coat did not seem to do much. at one point it had some white crystal residue buildup and I washed that off and let it dry and applied another coat of the corrosive. In short I did my typical thing of worrying it to death

Thanks Marty.. I use this poor stug as a test bed and got a little carried away in places but if it had been abandoned for a couple of decades I think it would start to look this way. We had an old john deere model A 1938 and it was pretty much brown and rust from one end to the other with very little paint anywhere. ran just fine though. although I do remember my dad saying a few words that were not meant for me to hear trying to start it sometimes
