Greetings all,
I am not new to this list having marked it as a favorite for some years now, however, I now have a need to participate so I have become a member. A little background first. I have been a modeler for about 50+ years. Starting with model railroading, hot rods and aircraft (mostly WW1 and WW2). I have been a model railroad manufacturer for over 30 years. I am working full time at this profession now after hanging up my "ears" at Walt Disney as a designer.
I have been manufacturing structure kits for 30 years. Mostly in plaster and now augmented with resin. My current work can be viewed at www.thomasayorke.com. I am well versed in architecture (Disney and college) and I am also a fine artist working mostly in paint and sculpture. I have been researching military miniatures for a few years and have become serious about over the past (almost) year. Due to current economic reasons (I'm sure I don't need to explain!) I need to expand my business model and military miniatures is of great interest to me. So here I am.
I am very interested in developing a small line of plaster/resin diorama pieces in both 1/48 and 1/32-1/35 scales. I have just completed the first which is a 1/48 scale quonset hut. This will be reproduced next in 1/35. I would love to sculpt a few building fronts and sections and would like to know what is needed. Between Randy and myself I think there will be some interesting products becoming available soon.
I would appreciate any advise, direction or ideas/comments that you may have. Please visit my website and I will post some photos here in about a week here of the quonset hut.
Thanks and have fun modeling,
Tom Yorke

Hi Tom,
I´m also a modeller interested in scale structures, I have worked for some companies that comercialize them: Custom Dioramics, Mig productions, Royal model, etc... most of these work is exposed here ar Armorama.Your question is not easy to respond, but my suggestion is that you must do that other companies not do. all people concentrate is efforts in only a narrow sector of construction: apartments, factories and barns, few do other items: churches, railroad stations... and of course few added "national features" in is models for sample: a Russian train Station is not same that a german or french, and this sentence is valid for every tipe of building.
I see your work as railroad modeller and I must say you hats off!!! your buidings have a "national detail", I hope that you can find the same level when you do a european building
hope that you find usseful this post
