Hello friends of Armorama,

I finished my diorama "My Sweet Sixteen." today. In fact, it was already done, but I have added some dead fronds under the palm trees, to make it a bit more realistic.

I hope you enjoy it !

Here are the photos :

Hello Guy. Excellent scene and very nice composition. Nice dusty appearancealso. The Stuart and figure look great ... as do the large leaves. A bit sceptical about the plam trunks themselves ... a bit perfect? Where did you get them from?

Hey Guy,

Good work, not bad on the palm trunks. Could have rough them up a bit.

I've got to ask the question, is this Tunisia or South Pacific? I ask this only because of the Stuart's marking.
Overall looks great.

Frank : I read your comment and I gave it a shot, to attack the palm tree trunks again ! I did this by dabbing an almost clean brush on the trunks, creating subtle dark brown scratches etc...Tx for your kind words !

Nico : tx man !

Brian : as I said to Frank, you're right about the trunks. Now they look a lot better I think. Your other question about the Pacific or Africa, the answer is Tunesia.

Tomorrow the final pic of the hell's palm trees.

Hey Guy,

Did you get the idea from "Stuart, US Light Tanks in Action." Armor No. 18 Squadron/Signal book page 16?

Just asking. Combining to the two photo's was original.

Hey G
She has turned out a real beaut mate! I like the way the dust from the tank blends seamlessly with the dusty scene. A nice layout too, with just enough interest to not overclutter the base.
Great stuff

Hi Guy,

I agree, this is really a great dusty scene and doing something with the trunks was the right thing to do.

Well done

hey Guy sorry for being late with just about everything -especially including comments on your latest
What's obvious is the amount of progresses you are doing month after month, the fig is really well painted and like someone above said this is a reall great dusty scene. this diorama is very well done indeed!
However there's something about it -there is not much of a plot is it? there's just a tank and a guy and some palms. I must say I prefer it when there's a stronger idea behind a diorama and you are perfectly able to do this as you already did quite a few times before, so let's hope that your next diorama will show even more craft mastering that this already very good one, and an idea to match!

Very nice diorama.

And yes, putting dead fronds on the palm tree did make it far more realistic. That was a smart move.

Hey Guy,
The dio and figure look great !!
Nice finish to your long term Stuart project.
Looks like you never addressed the missing Browning .30 cal lap gun !!
Not a criticism but it looks odd that it's absent.
Cheers

Brian, I didn't combine photos, strange (!), but now I'd like to see the pics too ! I even don't know the book.

Bradley, I've tried to make a simple diorama, not loaded with figures this time... just one man and his tank, in the desert. I'm glad you like it, because this was my very first desert scene. The blending between tank and scene was a challenge.

Claude, I have calmed down the effect on the trunks again, but I think it still looks better than before.

JBA, no problem, I'm a busy man too, I regret I don't have time enough to check all the threads here on Armorama. I'm happy to read that you like the diorama and especially its dusty appearance. You're right about the plot...there's no real plot. It's just a guy and his tank under a couple of Tunesian palm trees. In fact, I wasn't planning a diorama at all in the very beginning ! But I wanted to give an idea of the size of the tank by adding a suitable figure, and...I just loved to make these palm trees. I promise, my next project will have a story line, with more figures. Personally I like more interaction too.

Martyn, I'm glad you like it !

Darryl, the dusty scene was something I really liked to do, it was a challenge for me.

Tom, it was great fun to make the fallen leaves, using all kinds of browns, greys, pale greens...and it makes sense.

The last pic of this topic.

Thank you for all your help, advice, words of friendship, support etc...!

Hey Guy,
I'm still new at the posting photo's gig for this site, but I'm slowly learning.
I've the book for research because I've got 5 M3 Stu's(diesels), an M5A1, and an M8 that I've been working on over the years.
The page I refer to, pg.16, has an M3A1, different markings, etc., in the the upper right with your figure in that pose, and in the lower right photo it shows "Tiger" after being disabled in early Dec. '43 in Tunisia.
That's why I asked.
Weird, you've never the book and I could swear that you combined both photo's.

Hey Guy,
Hoe est maat?
I really like the dust effects you have achieved in this scene and the palms with dead fronds look so much better now.
One aspect with the groundwork that I find interesting is how you have placed the vegetation mimicking the effect of the wind.
Excellent work as usual Guy,
Greetz,
Shay

(P.S When are you going to get started on the Florian figure and horse mate?Or are you addicted to Alpine now? )

Hi Guy,

It has been fun watching your diorama progress, the whole thing has tied up very nicely. I've been away a while so I haven't had the chance to congratulate you on this nice diorama. I also like the addition of the fallen fronds.

Brian : a very funny situation this is, I've never combined two photos. Thanks for your reply my friend.

DJ : the dust effect costed me weeks, I'm glad you like it man ! Thank you too.

Shay : thank you, I've worked hard on it, but now I'm glad I can put it in my showcase. I've had enough dust, palm trees, fronds, trunks...for a long time I'm afraid.
Florian Geyer will certainly step up his horse next year, and I will try to make it as good as the sculpture itself. It must be great fun to paint a horse (my daughter loves horses, she'll have the time of her life criticizing my work all the time, lol).

Chas : the fallen fronds were a good addition to complete the scene. I thank you !

I will clear it out for you Zaidi : the tank's number is 16. My sweet sixteen is a 50's song I believe, referring to a teenage girl.

Tx for your reply.

I promise to choose a clear title for my next project.
