Gents,

I was wondering if anyone can identify the type if Firefly Sherman tank on page 329 in the book The Royal Canadian Armoured Corps? It looks like a 1c Firefly, but can't tell if it's a hybrid or not. It also has a selection of Churchill tracks welded to it.

TIA

Brad

Hi Brad,

It looks to me like a Firefly IC ......I can't see if the weld bead for the Firefly IC Hybrid is on the hull due to the track link armour.

Remember....it is IC....not 1C.

and....it is Hussar....not Hassar.

Hey Brad,
It is a Firefly IC.
The same photo is on page 15 of Service Publications "The Sherman In Canadian Service".

Thanks Jason, and forgive me for my mistakes...IC and Hussars. So I am looking to build this puppy, I have the Italeri M4A1 kit with a Verlinden Sherman IC composite hull and turret. Can I use this or do I need something else?

Thanks

Hey Brad,
What you have there should do.
Dragon had a Firely IC available a few years ago in their Imperial Series, kit #9037, but it's long OOP
Dragon "supposedly" have a new Sherman IC Firefly in the works, kit #6228.
Unfortunately, they've had it listed in their 2005, 2006 and 2007 catalogs so I wouldn't hold your breath in it being released any time soon !!
Cheer

Hey Brad,
Here's the Firefly IC on Lucky Model:

http://www.luckymodel.com/scale.aspx?item_no=DR%209037

It's not a bad kit, it will need some TLC and a few upgrades with AM stuff.
From the pictures of the sprues, this version of the kit doesn't give you the extra late version turret for a flamethrower 105mm armed Sherman used in the PTO.
What was nice about the original kit was that you could combine the late version turret with the Firefly parts an make a late version of the Firefly IC with the oval loaders hatch seen in late model 75mm armed Shermans rather than the square one that the British cut out with a torch.

Another option is to buy the Formations Composite hull and an AM firefly turret.

Hey Guys,

One more question on this, would the road wheels have been the early spoked or late style cast variety?

TIA

Hey Brad,
Every photo and drawing of the IC that I've seen appears to show that they had the cast style road wheels.
Mind you, that doesn't mean that the spoked style wasn't used as replacements during repairs and maintenance.

Just a small correction. There are no cast road wheels. The earlier spoked wheels are fabrications of welded plate and the later ones are stamped sheet metal.
