The M113's that were setup for gasoline used a Chrysler 361 engine (looks just like their well known 383 engine). The ones setup for deisels used a Detroit 6-53 engine . The photos are from an early one (aka Vietnam era). Dosn't have the so called "water steer gearbox" that was removed on virtually all APC's shipped to RVN. The transmission for that era looks like a GM Turbo 400 on the outside (TX100 series to be exact), but is built much heavier on the inside. The later ones also don't use the water steer option, and use what is known as the X200 transmission. Looks completely different, and replaces most of the drive train parts including the differential shown in the picture. The newer transmission is internally very similar to the transmission in the M-1 tank by design, but don't think it uses a pair of final drives like the M-1 tank. The production line for the TX100 transmission was shut down in 1987, and all M113's after that use the X200 (most have (or are being converted over to the X200 that were built with the TX100). The reason I brought up the transmission issues is that it looks completely different than the automotive style TX100.
