Nice kit indeed but according to the ref number I guess this will be a 1/72 kit ?!

Hello All,
Looks very cool but the sight heads on the turret are wrong. This to me looks like an LAV that has only had the add on armor added as well as the J-Tech cross wind sensor. It is missing the dust cover behind the mantlet, which is very obvious when you look at the LAVA1 Retrofitted vehicles or a new A2 production variant. There are also some brackets and plates that were missed behind the armor plate on the turret. The muffler and shroud were replaced to a new configuration early during the A1 retrofit and A2 production run, and as I am typing this may even be changed again. The new shrouds were overheating and catching fire. If anyone wants I would be willing todo a review of this kit once it's released if I can get my hands on one.
Just a quick note for those not in the know. During the spring/summer 2006 the Marine Corps decided to upgrade it's existing LAV fleet to the 28V E-Drive system as well as integrate the ITSS sight. Now, this is were the confusion starts to come into play. At the same time the existing vehicles were fielded with the add on armor (Legacy LAV). Then the retrofited vehicles with the add on armor and ITSS sight, crosswind sensor (LAVA1 Retrofit) and then the new production vehicles (LAV A2) look the same as A1 but totally new construction with many internal differences.

Andreas,
Thanks for the info update. Hard to keep track of all the modifications etc that a lot of vehicles go through.

Great Info Andreas Thanks.
All the Trumpeter 8X8's are missing the dust cover aren't they ?
I'm going to use a bit of rubber from a surgical glove to scratch mine in the ASLAV

Frenchy,
That's the original configuration with only the add on armor mod and no muffler shroud. The add on armor you see there is a pre-production test unit rushed to the units in theater. The new A1 & A2 configurations don't have the troop vision slits anymore.

Paul,
The dust cover's were only added as part of the A1 retrofit and A2 new build.

This is the LAV with the SLEP upgrades from the late 90's early 20's added prior to the A1 upgrades.

Here is a link to some photos that I had posted earlier that show an complete LAVA1 with all of the retrofitted items. Some items weren''t pictured for security. This LAVA1 Retrofit and New Built A2's will look the same, with the major changes being internal items. There will be some differences externally but not many.

Thanks Andy.
ASLAV's have them too. From your info I see why Trumpeter are yet to have them - seeing they've only done the '25'.
Cheers,
Paul

Ok guys,
I just got through talking to a bunch of people in the right places and the official terminology that should be applied to these vehicles is LAVA2(Legacy = retrofitted vehicles) and the LAVA2 purpose built brand new vehicles. Like I said earlier the major differences between the two will be internal to the hull.

Hi Guys,
Dumb question time,
How different is the LAV A2 to the LAV 3.
would it take a lot of work to convert it? externally only.
(NZ army operates LAV 3s)
Cheers

Once I get all of the unique Aussie mods together. From what I've heard Mouse House is doing some?

As Gary said, the LAV Generation III and the older LAV-25 are very different. Here is a side-by-side comparison to demonstrate.
Best bet is to start w/a Stryker hull and either the Real Model or the Mouse House Enterprises conversion sets for a NZ LAV Gen III.
