Hi
I need some opinion on wether the camo that I've painted some figures for a small dioram a look ok. What I've done is painted 3 figures to represent USMC during WW2. I have painted the man with only a helmet in the Brown / Green scheme that you most commonly see. I've painted the 2 standing figures in partly the same scheme & then I've done either there jacket or trousers in the Green/green/brown/Brown pattern.
This was to done to make a change from either the Brown.Green pattern or the usual Herribone that seems to be show.
What I'm intresed in is does this look convincing for the greener pattern.
the figures were painted in Vallejo model Colour with an Oil Paint wash to age them a little.
my biggest problem is trying to match the colours that Dragon list with the Vallejo range.
Your feedback on these would be very much apprechiated

I'm not a USMC expert so I can't help much, but I'd like to ask more about this diorama you are working on. Where is it set? Will there be any Japanese infantry/tanks? Tell me more!

Hello Chas
No Jap's on this diorama I'm afraid.
Its a small diorama set in the Pacific on a muddy road with a M29c Weasel being loaded into the back of a 2 1/2ton Truck. Apart from the Uniforms & the vehicles being marked up as USMC there is nothing to realy say that it's the Pacific.
I've based it on a picture that I've got of some French troops doing the same thing during the early part of the Indo- Chino war . I figured that it was probably done the same way during WW2 .
Once it's done I'll post some pictures.

G'day Shaun !!
The dark spots look a little dark, but a bit of dust will probably bring it back a bit.
Great work so far !!
The USMC P42 Camo had a three colour scheme on a light background.
These sites have some really great images:

Scroll down a little for this one.

I did the airfix marines years ago and the paint scheme was very similar to the one in the first helmet, but with green spots instead of the kakhi(as the german tritone with some colour variation)

That's one particularly messed up thing about Marines in the Pacific, there were more than a few uniform schemes, and none of the uniforms looked the same due to weathering, use of different materials, length of service, etc. Fortunately there were so many different island stops in the theater, so you can search for reference material by island and come up with at least a starting point. I'll be back with some links.

Hi
The figure's were a mixture of Dragon , Verlinden for the standing figure's & the sitting man was a Tamiya bare body from the 25pdr gun crew which I remodelled the arms to fit the M29c Weasel. They have since been added to a diorama with a Italeri 2 1/2ton cargo truck being loaded up with a Monogram M29c Weasel.
There are some more pic's on photobucket
