Hi

I have a small problem with waffen farben
In an armour Division there are Armour regiments, Mot infantry regiments, Artelery regiments, AT departments and so on.
Waffenfarben in an armour Division is pink (carmisin red)
That armour regiments have pink I understands, but has the other regiments also pink or has infantery= white, pz gren= green, artelery= red and so on.

And are there some different between waffen SS and the Heer

Hope you understand my question

Grateful for replies

Looking at Ospray, men at arms The german army. There are list of branch. I dont think it is that black and white. Some armourd infantry wore pink others green depends on the division and what front they where on. Some A/t units also wore pink. The books are cheap 2nd hand from amazon The books are called Men at arms The german army 1-5 1939 -45 by Osprey Nigel Thomas hopes this helps a little

Hello Per,

the units keep their certain Waffenfarben, no matter which greater unit they belong to.

During the war the korps and divisions were reformed, but the Waffenfarben never changed.

But the units had on their uniforms emblems of the current division.

Waffen-SS and Heer were clearly separated.

Per,
While the other guys links are very helpful, there is also scope for confusion. In Army (Heer) & Waffen SS Panzer divisions, the infantry were known as Panzergrenadiers (armoured infantry). Their waffenfarbe was apple green in Heer units, but in SS units, Panzergrenadiers still wore the white of the infantry (as also did Grossdeutschland, a Heer unit). Panzer Regiments wore pink, also Panzerjager (for both Heer & SS). The confusion over the recce units, is because many of the Aufklarungs Abteilungen were formed from Kradshutzen (motorcycle troops), converted to armoured cars & half tracks. As recce units their waffen farbe was originally brown, then yellow (see the charts). All artillery wore red whether they were field artillery or Flak etc.
Note that it would be possible to see the black panzer clothing piped yellow in a recce unit, when worn in a closed vehicle, & was also worn by crews of armoured radio cars (signals). A rarely photographed pattern is the black & white twist on the black panzer clothing for armoured engineers. Also note non AFV crewmen in the Panzer regiment (e.g. mechanics, truck drivers) wore normal field grey, but with the pink piping. Finally, 24th Panzer (Heer) uniquely retained yellow cavalry waffenfarbe for it's tank regiment as it had been converted from cavalry.
There were some different colours with certain SS troops, e.g.the Concentration camp guards had a copper brown colour waffenfarbe, but this is irrelevant in frontline units, the main difference is the infantry units & the staff - Waffen SS generals wore silver grey where Heer generals wore bright red.
The Luftwaffe Hermann Goering "Parachute Panzer" Division had it's own unique style of collar patches & special waffenfarbe for some sub units.
