How were ammo boxes secured to tanks? I don't see any hooks on them.

K-Ration boxes as well. Were just straps used?

Usually straps, but in emergency situations they used everything good for the use they found as for instance ropes, etc...

Lots of wire was used, too. Commo wire has littered most battlefields since World War I.
