Since this is going to be tucked away barely visible in my Cougar JERRV, my initial thought was to use the hull of a Micro Armor tank, and add the camera and manipulating arm to it. After comparing that with the the admittedly half fast attempt at the Talon, I'm glad I went with the scratchbuild.

Again, most goes unseen, so I didn't go whole hog on it:

All that remains is the claw, the IR light and camera, and another antenna:

Once installed, it'll hopefully have a passing resemblance to this :
(By the way, I have a request on the Buy, Sell, Trade forum for a small US flag decal to finish this off. I'll pay or trade for one.)

How small a flag do you require?

Thanks for the comments. Seb, the tracks came from a little resin kit I purchased just for this project, a 1/72 KhTZ-16 Armored Soviet Tractor from AER Moldava. I thought the wheels might be usable as well, but they had five spokes instead of the required six, so I had to scratch them. At any rate, I don't even want to mention the cost of the kit for a set of tracks. If I do another, I may try PE to get a better look, or see what else is available in 1/72.

Matt, the flag I was looking for would be a shoulder patch, non-subdued. I think 1/35 or 1/48 would do it, although 1/48 might be closer to the correct size. Someone else has it covered for now though, but thanks. It should look like this when finished:

I finished it up this afternoon, just need to paint it. Then I can continue with the Cougar, as finishing the interior was one of the holdups.

No problem. If you need anything else be sure to ask. That Talon sure turned out nice.

Stay safe Bravo

Well, I had to widen it after all was said and done because I needed it to overhang the bench it rests on. Now it just needs the flag decal (on its way, thanks!) and some detail painting/drybrushing.
Next up is the PackBot.

18Bravo, that is really awesome. The funniest time I had was watching this robot recover one of his little buddies that malfunctioned on top of a suspected ied. Turned out it was not, but watching the EOD guys recover it gave us some humor. Fortunately all turn out well.

Nice work! Always good to see scratchbuilt kit. I got to see one of these in action when some $hitpump left their backpack unattended by the AAFES on KAF.

This is a great idea project. I've seen pictures of these and thought of this myself but along with a million other things I want to build too. You're actually doing it. Great!
