One of my favorite websites -- and one that I regularly steer other modelers to visit -- is AFV Interiors, webmastered by Mike Kendall.
If you visit the site, Mike has announced that he is pulling the plug Aug. 1. The latest and last issue features German/Italian Leopard 1 and Leopard 2 tanks, the German Wespe, the German Gepard AA system and the U.S. M103 heavy tank.
Be sure to check out the vehicle archives pages -- TONS of great information and photos of INTERIORS of tanks from World War i to the present day.
Here's the link: AFV Interiors
There's some great stuff on this site, guys, so let the downloading begin. You might also want to drop Mike a note of thanks for the wonderful resource he has provided for a time.

This is such a bummer...for the time being, as he states that maybe in the future the site may come back up. (fingers crossed)

Yes, I talked with Jeff Barringer a month or so ago and he said it was a money drainer. They just didn't get the volume he had hoped for, even after a year of giving away free kits in 2001 and restarting giveaways this year with those German panzer books.
He told me he was hosting someone's site and it has actually become a community in itself.
It's too bad, he had some nice stuff going there. Heck, the kits I won from his site: Tamiya Leopard 2A5, DML Elefant, Accurate Miniatures P-51A and the 1/16 Tamiya Tiger I were big ticket giveaway items.

That's because they are both hosted by Mike. This is too bad, he was going to run my Abrams pics, guess I'll move them to Armorama instead.

Bump.
I'd like to keep this post on the "latest post" list for a day or two just because I think everyone who builds armor should visit it at least once.
Even if you are not interested in modeling an AFV interior, the info on this site can help you learn more about your favorite tanks and other AFVs, how they work, and what stuff they carried -- as well as give an idea of crew comfort and working conditions.
If you haven't take a few hours and check it out -- it won't be around forever!

The full metal Jacket site Is I believe going down as well. But don't dispair if you want to save both sites to your comp use Adobe Acrobat and under file at the top is ' open web page'.
Just click set up your parameters and save it to your comp as a .pdf file. you can then save it to a disk ,although from a disk its a bit slow in the read dept.

hi all.
I regret seeing the AFV Interiers site close, In the past I have got some nice info from them. And I for one feel that this is a resource that I want to keep handy so I thought I'd share another way for those who wish to to keep it.
The adobe .pdf file route is one way but as mentioned its a bit slow on retreiveal.
Another way is to download one of the Offline web surfing programs from
www.tucows.com
I used Backstreet Brouser. it is shareware and expires in 15 days or so but that is long enough. just have it download the entire website to your harddrive with the Create a brouseable copy on your harddrive.
After downloading on the HD you can brouse it to your hearts content just like you would on the web except there is no further download times for anything.
Just a warning the site is quite large over 8800 files around 200 megs.. I'll prob be saving mine to a CD to keep for a future reference..
anyways I will miss the site.. after Armorama it is prob my 2nd most used resourse.

AFV Interiors is/was a great one. I got all my info for making the interior of my Honey from there (saved me some money on reference material, too).
I'm glad he's letting us download what we need from the site, though. I got 37 megabytes of articles for tanks I think I might end up building some day.

This will be a great loss to the hobby. I use AFV interiors all of the time for research. The AFV interiors website was indeed one of the shining gems on the web for armor enthusiasts. This was an awesome collection of information.

I absolutely agree with the other guys on the big lost we all suffer from the AFV Interiors shutdown...
I'll drop for sure a note to Mike Kendall to thak him for what he did.

I've visited both AFV Interiors and Full Metal Jacket frequently... both were great sites and I'd hate to loose them; it will certainly be a big gap in the modeling comunity after they are gone..
OK, I've downloaded the Backstreet Browser, but haven't got a clue how to start downloading web-pages. It tells me it can't find the URLs I want to download?

and go for it.

I wrote him before reading this and also offered to host the site. It would seem to be a good resource match for us and since it's a flat HTML driven site I don't think it would negatively impact Armorama's performance.
I will await Mike's response on it.
Cheers,

Certainly one of the best sites I have been to. I have been collecting information for years on the Gepard for a future super detailed project. This was a prime source of data. I can only say thanks for such a great site and hope we see a something somewhere else in the future.

I sure hope Mike takes someone up on the offer. Even if he chooses not to update it as often as he has in the past, it would be great to have access to the "archives." Like many of you, my tastes and interests are changing and evolving -- sometimes those AFV Interior archives motivate me to try something different.
