Hi guys,
I'm in need of some British figures and am considering purchasing the Tamiya set" British Infantry On Patrol"
but was wondering if they are any good,or would I be better going to one of the newer Dragon sets

The completed figures are shown on the back of the box. The figures are rather lanky and thin, like many recent Tamiya figures, and the faces mediocre. They could be okay if you swap Hornet or other aftermarket heads. I prefer the Dragon figures personally.

The equipment and uniforms are very good, better than the available Dragon figures. The heads are not so good, too small and goofy looking. Ultracast heads would be a perfect match, they even come in sets of five.

Definitely not as impressive as the later of the two Dragon infantry sets for NW Europe. The Tamiya figures also sport an impossible combination of No. 4 rifles and sword bayonets - they just wouldn't fit on the rifle's bayonet mounts and should be replaced with the correct pigsticker type. Oh and the tiny tea mugs supplied by Tamiya wouldn't keep a British soldier going for long either

lol!
I have all the above mentioned sets and would recommend them all. It boils down to what poses you're looking for, select the best set for the scene you wish to portray. Masterbox's set 'British troops Caen 1944' is also not a bad set, again depending on the poses you want. As mentioned I bought the lot and chop and change arms legs and torso's to get required poses and the equipment as neccesary to avoid problems such as David mentions.
Resin heads are a great update for any figure set, but is down to preference (Hornet do some great sets). None of these sets are terrible and will all paint up well with some TLC.

James

Cheers Guys
Thanks for the replies,I'll take you comments on board.
It looks as if Dragons' the best bet,I must admit their new Commonwealth figures look good.
The plan is to try and replicate a photo I have of my grandfather taken in Cairo where he was a driver with the 2nd RMT, NZEF,but he also served in Italy so this an option also.
I'd like to be to finish the figure without any equipment but we'll see.
Regards
Chris
