Well, here it is. It is still missing a few of the parts that are very fragile such as the mirrors for example...I will put those on as the very last step. It was a challenge to make something soooooo huge and all one color look interesting and I am still not sure I pulled it off.
I tried to use lots of highlighting and other techniques with pastels and airbrush to throw some of the surfaces back while bringing others forward color wise. Then on the flatbed I made it look road weary. Lets face it, it is not like this animal was hauling around show cars. Pretty much everything put on the flatbed was leaking something, oil, hydro fluids, fuel.... I stained the floor of the bed and dusted the entire lower surfaces with different shades of brown pastel to give the impression of road dust and grime.
I could not get the whole thing in one photo and still show any detail, it is simply to big!
Now I have to start on the burnt out Sherman, a Jeep and about 12 figures to complete the diorama. (sigh)....

Still, loving the paint job. Who's paint did you use? Enamel or Acrylic?

That is one big moma. Good job was this thing really chain driven? I use to work on old 10 ton truck but don't remember anything with chain on the drives. Wow that would have been a pain if it got caked with mud and the chain came off.

Awesome work DG! Some mighty impressive paint work there too. Do you plan to add any simulated dirt & mud when you add the burned-out Sherman?

Also, nice dusting job on the tyres. It looks like you distressed the treads somewhat, did you? They look very authentic. The DW should fit right into that marvelous dio mock-up you posted.
Can't wait to see the next installment!!
So hurry up, and get back to work!!!

Tread.

DG,

You are one humble person, that's a big hunk of bologna you spit out about not being able to pull it off

Keep it up and we are all going to ruin our keyboards from them shorting out because of the drooling... and I personally am gonna hold you responsible for it

Get one of the spillproof ones. They work real well!!!
Can someone please tell me how to do a paint job like there is on this here DW? It's green, but there's subtle variations throughout that give the paintjob an interesting look. I guess it's because it's not the same uniform green throughout the entire surface.

Dave,
Nice work! I love the overall weathering. Not too extreme but definately takes the clean edge off. The trailer looks especially nice.

Can't wait to see the whole project all together.

Yup that's a purty looking DW. Too bad the posts were deleted where I'm yelled at for saying a guy I know got the DW for a low price... Those were amusing. :-)

YM,
Yes that is a shame. Amazing what gets written here in a 48hr timeperiod. Quite a bit of what I entered into the database got lost too.

Yeah, I guess I didn't realize how much activity there is until 48 hours of posts gets erased!
So, how big is the completed DW? That'd have to be a big model for the price of around $100 that most people I know have paid.
