i was planning a dio with a captured british landshp rolling over a british trench followed by a bunch of stormtroopers w/ gas masks etc. and maybe a couple british soldiers sitting/sleeping in their trench, anf a dead one in a water filled shell crater with rats. any ideas where i might b able to find figures for this? preferably affordable

What scale are you looking for?
If it's 1/35, M-Model (of Poland) offers few:

As well as ICM (of Ukraine):

I'm sure there is more out there.

The other poster mentioned the Japanese armor web site. Very nice figures, indeed. I have several and will get more. Excellent quality and decent price and they are nice folks.

As Ales said, ICM do a set of late-war German assault infantry (stromtroopers) in 1/35.
I don't have them, but I do have the accompanying ICM set of WWI British infantry, and they're very nice.
Plus Model (of the Czech Republic) do a set of rats in the same scale.

Verlinden has a few, you might be able to get them cheap nowadays (my local shop sells two-pack Verlinden figures for around 15$). Dunno about the sculpt, they can be hit or miss.

Andrea, JMD and Hecker and Goros have some, but I think they might be a bit for what you are looking for
