Why doesn't the Stryker vehicle have CIP panels like most other modern US vehicles? Maybe some do, but by just researching on the internet I haven't seen any.

Thanks,
Evan

There really is no urgent need now for CIPs. I don't think you see many CIPS on any vehicles anymore. Still, having said that, there is a CIP for Strykers. It is on the lower front hull and does not look like the CIP used on tanks and humvees. It has the corrugated look of the traditional CIP but no frame around it. Then, for the sides a small thermal square is used and typically hangs off the bustle racks. It seems to be a unit SOP thing, and certainly not used by all Stryker units. I suppose the Stryker CIP is used for air ID at night?

The CIPs are not really used any longer. They are used to identify a vehicle as friend or foe. Since the insurgents don't really use any vehicles, esp. armor, as part of their tactics, they are no longer needed. The CIPs were removed in mid- late '03 after th einitial invasion where we were fighting Iraqi armored vehicles. No Strykers were part of the invasion or early days of the war, so you don't see any Strykers w/CIPs.
