Here are photos of my Gun Truck 'Sopwith Camel'.
It started life as the AFV Club 'Nancy' Gun Truck but after a couple of moves and a big drop it was sent to the maintenance depot and repaired and had the Hobby Fan conversion added.
I know the overall colour is too light but I had already added the decals before I found out, so it's going to stay as is now. Don't know if the mucking up/dusting up is too much? But I guess they have just got back from a long dusty convoy protection job.
Let me know what you think good or bad?
Thanks to redcobra04, pfc, animal, pascalbausset & Gun Truck for all their help.
Cheers
David

Great job David! "Camel" looks mighty tough there!

Are you going to do another Gun Truck? You know, once you've done one - you can never go back to 'normal' trucks!

VERY Good example of a proud 2 1/2 ton truck. The color looks good and the weathering is spot on. Bravo. You should build more. Like Jim said you can't just build one. I am working on number 326 now. LOL

thanks for all the positive replies guys.
In answer to the various questions yes I do plan to do more Gun Trucks I have the Real Models 'Eve of Destruction' waiting to go and I also have Legend's gun truck conversion kit. I don't know if this is based on an actual gun truck or just made up I will have to check it out. I also want to try doing some scratch building in the future when my 19 month old twin boys allow me the time that is

Great looking gun truck, beautifully weathered. I agree with the others…they are fun to build having built many myself and working on one now. The “Eve” sounds to be a fun build, looking forward to it.

Happy Modeling,
Joe

Very nice looking gun truck. The weathering looks just right.. not overdone like some like to do it.

By the way, has AFV's gun truck kit been discontinued? It's been out of stock for a long time at Hobbyeasy.. and at Luckymodel it's not even listed as "Available".

Can their M35A2 be used as a gun truck, or is that a modern version?

Cheers

There's a picture in James Lyles "The Hard Ride" book. No unit mention...

My dad rode in the Sopwith Camel, so yes it was real. I'll have to check with him about what unit it was in...

Gun trucks haven't captured my imagination but this one has! I am starting to see the appeal. I really like the subtle dust collecting on the upper areas of bed, fenders, etc.

James Lyle's book, "Gun trucks in Vietnam" lists Sopwith Camel with the 86th Maint. Bn. There is also a picture of the gun truck Mafia Operated built model by William Atwell. I wish I could contact him as this was our gun truck when I was at Nha Trang and I'm curious where he got the info on it. Yours looks really good.

The gun truck boxing has a sprue to make the truck an M35A1 (can be built as a standard bed A1 cargo truck or the depicted quad 50 gun truck version), their original A2 boxing can only be built OOB as an A2. Mainly the exhaust routing.
