One more thing, what are those blocks that are on the mounted on the front fenders next to the spare track link? If in combat would they be needed or not?

If you are referring to the rectangular blocks with a raised "x" on them, they are grousers, which are "clipped" onto the tracks to provide additional traction in snow, mud or similarly soft surfaces.

yep, that would be them, thanks Phil. You wouldn't happen to know what the purpose of the turret wings that fold out do would you?

Hello Mike,
if we're talking about the same "wings", it's a stowage area for crew stuff.
Hope this is of any help (maybe I'm wrong on this, so don't hesitate to correct me).

The grousers aren't clipped on......a rubber track pad is removed (i.e. hammered out) and the grouser is hammered in its place.

There is also kit stowage on the inside of the turret armour panels.

That is a weird spot for storage? It does look cool though. Actually, the whole tank does.

The kit stowed inside the armour panels is vehicle equipment......not crew personal kit.........it is actually an excellent use of space.

If you turn the turret to a 90 degree position relative to the hull, you can see that the engine deck hatch can only be removed when you " unfold" the "wings" on the turret. When they are still folded against the turret, you cannot remove the hatch and therfore the engine. These armour plates were not on the original leo so the turret width was not a problem when removing the engine

It includes the deep fording utilites and it is simply called "Zusatzpanzerung" (additonal armor).

Hi Marco, thanks, I was pretty sure it was the deep fording equipment stowed in there......I have seen images of it inside the right side additional armour panel.
