I have a Wespe that I have built and finished in dark gray with dark green camo pattern. I want to to a worn whitewash over this base paint job. My question is this: should my decals go under or over the whitewash? After typing this, it sounds dumb, but is it over or under?

Assuming that the white wash was field applied I would have to say the decals would be under?

I have seen several variants of markings and white wash. I have seen tanks that were painted in white wash but on the place of the marking they left a square open so you could see the grey underneath it. and there was then the marking painted on
I also have seen them being simply applied on top of the white wash. And some had even the marking half covered with paint from the white wash so you have some choice

This pic of the StuG 40 F shows quite good the first variant of the marking in the grey square with the winterwash around it

I did a Wespe in winter whitewash a couple years ago. What I did was do a nice 3 color camo, apply the decals, then spray a thin coat of white so the base showed through and avoided painting over the decals. Worked for me.

I posted a question and a whopping 4 minutes later I started getting answers. Man I love this site! Thanks guys, I believe I will decal, then put the white wash over it and let some of it show through.
