Ausie M113 rear hatch
Posted: Friday, November 28, 2008 - 07:21 AM UTC
Why is the rear hatch different than other M113's. Is that extra armor on the hatch. Its circled in red in the pic below.

Hi Kennan
What you are looking at is the Australian Ventilation System. The box on the cargo hatch is the cover over the two air filters, there is also a blower that can been seen just to the left of the arrow.
![](../../../i57.photobucket.com/albums/g222/D_J_W/NZ---AFVs/M113---FOV---Details/AirFilterssml.jpg)
As far as I know the system was only used by Australia and New Zealand and was used all M113 type vehicles except for M548s. The M125 had a smaller filter fitted to the left handside cargo hatch.
cheers
David

Hi Keenan
A bit more detail of the underside of the hatch
![](../../../i57.photobucket.com/albums/g222/D_J_W/NZ---AFVs/M113---FOV---Details/AirFilterBlower01.jpg)
The power cable goes up through the hatch, at the rear and comes back into the vehicle just to the rear of the hatch hinge.
one picture is worth 1000 words (Yes I know there are only 25)
![](../../../i57.photobucket.com/albums/g222/D_J_W/NZ---AFVs/M113---FOV---Details/AirFilter001.jpg)
And just a bonus the M125 Mortar Carrier
![](../../../i57.photobucket.com/albums/g222/D_J_W/NZ---AFVs/M113---FOV---Details/M125AirFilter001.jpg)
cheers

Hi Gary
Sorry I don't, I can't even recall seeing one. But I do have a number of photos I have taken over the years showing the evolution of the turret in NZ service, if that is of some help, but nothing internal except for one.

David, nice shots from the manual. You wouldn't have any of the T-50 turret from the manual, would you? Thanks.
Gary,
What stuff exactly do you need ?
Will these help - I do have some other stuff - but it's in the shed - so I will have to dig it out

Mouse Armour do produce both the rear cargo hatch with air filter box and interior detail as well a fully detailed (interior) T50 turret with 50 and 30 ammo cans ala Vietnam item MA113.
The kit does include other stuff like drivers hatch with spider lock, new detailed engine fire wall with two engine access panels (rather than one as per all M113 kits)

Hello
Would anyone have any photos of the ex-Aussie FSVs that were converted back to
normal APC spec by the Kiwis?
I am especially after photos of the roof adapter plate.
Likewise any accurate drawings?
Thanks
Doug

A question for the experts here, what does the interior of the T-50 turret look like? One other thing, we've come across a pic of the interior of an Australian M-113 (with T-50 turret) with some strange looking stowage boxes in place of the interior bench seats. Are these common with their M-113's?
