Tan is really a master in painting figurines, giving them a "colourized expression", but I think he has to share that with Harmm's precise sclupting, his figurines are just a delight to paint.

I'll be getting those as soon as they hit the stores....

The rubberized coat on the NCO

There's no rubberized coat, mate Peiper wears a U-boat leather jacket, and the NCO a camo smock over his field tunic.

LAH = 1st SS-Panzer Division Leibstandarte-SS Adolf Hitler

Thanks, I knew someone would know. I've seen it abbreviated as LSSAH & SS-LAH.

Peiper doesn't seem like he was a particularly nice guy during the war.

And why exactly is SS-Obersturmbannführer Joachim Peiper wearing a U-boat jacket? I mean other that to be cool.

Jim,

My references are all at home, but very briefly, WSS panzer troops were distinctive during the late war in making extensive use of leather clothing; a large amount of which was surplus navy engine room crew clothing. One of the "perks" of being an elite paramilitary arm, I guess.

Peiper wears a jacket similar to the one worn here, in a previous Alpine figure set: Late War Waffen-SS Panzer NCO Set (2 figures)

In addition to the book Geraint mentions (which I agree, is brilliant) you can also follow Calvin's progress on his blog Perspectives in Miniature
