Guys--need some help. I have the .50 Cal ammo box monted on the gun. I tried to highlight the rounds. Does not look right in that the paint collected on some and dispersed over the rest. Do I dry brsuh or what? I used Master Modeler Brass for the color.
thanks

Did you put any primer on the ammo first? I have had metallic paints settle to low areas, because plastic was too smooth for the mettalics to grab.

Yes, I have used brass for the casings and copper for the ball ammo. Try a dark wash between links after that.

For a metal finish, I usualy use a black priming.
For the rest, I use white.

Hi Guys,
If the ammo is molded in the top of the box you can use the "Bare Metal Foil" brand gold-tone self-adhesive aluminum foil, then black wash and add the links with 1/32in. drafting tape.
Hope This Helps!
Chuck :-)

Chuck - - that is one great idea. Do you have a source for the gold bare metal?
thanks

well, here is my best advice:

http://members.tripod.com/saammodels/Pictures/otherbuild/m60a1/index.htm

I used gold for the shells, then added a line of black for the "belts". Although it cannot be seen, I ran a touch of copper over the tips of the shells. Then I washed with a thicker dark brown in future floor polish rather than water, and then dull coated the whole vehicle. Finally, I put a light coat of Testors Gloss on it. Judge for yourself.

I also use Rub N' Buff a waxingpaste or "crayon" like stick that comes in many metallic colors. I prime in flat black, then using a chisel pointed toothpick ( I carve with an exacto blade) I rub the material on the cases and buff after 20-30 minutes . Seems to get good results.

MM Brass or MM Brass Metalizer? I use their metalizer and it adheres exceptionally well. Make sure it's very well stirred/shaken. Then take paint from the upper sides of the bottle, there's more pigment there.
Whenever possible, use the correct color. Brass is close to gold, but next to each other you CAN tell the difference. Gold is "warmer". The slugs should be copper with a gunmetal belt. You can put a drop of black wash to tone this down and add some definition between the bulllets.
