Hi guys!
This is my first post, so hang with me! This is a great forum!!
I’m building a 1/18 scale HMMVVV and am looking for a little clarification on all the gadgetry and antenna stuff I’ve seen on some of the pictures in other threads. Could someone help me decipher which antenna are which and what they’re for? Maybe if someone had a picture of a HMMVVV with a bunch of different antenna on it, they could point out which is which. It’s important to me to get them and all the weapons placed appropriately, I’m building it as a gift for a soldier, and I want to make it as accurate as possible!
Thanks!

Congratulations on your first post!
First things first Vince, what type of Hummer are you building, M1025, M1114, M1151, etc. That will help determine what kind of weapon configuration and commo configuration you will have on it.
So just sit back and your gonna be over whelmed with stuff from the rest of the guys. Frenchy should chime in whit tons of pics. Guys like myself, Gino(Heavyarty), Robert(18Bravo), and a bunch more which are too many to list that has or is serving in the military will help you out.

Wow! Thanks man!
It is going to be an M1114. I didn't even know there were so many different kinds and so many antenna and other things. I usually build modern US Military aircraft. This project is out of my normal genre, but I am willing to face the challenge.
Thanks!

Ok, thats a good start.
Most likely it's going to have some type of anti-IED system on it which has a couple of different antennas and devices for that. Then there will be the Blue Force Tracker which has it's own antenna. Then you have the actual commo equipment whic is the SINCGAR radios and will have either one or two anttenas depending on the radio configuration.
Stand by and let me see what I have here on my laptop in the form of pictures I can upload for you.

Also,
If I can't find a decent 1/18 scale kit, I was thinking of using one of those 1/18 toys from Toys R Us or one of those internet hobby stores, and them "adding" to it. They seem fairly accurate in shape & detail?

Here is a start for you Vince:
I'm not sure if there is any kit in 1/18 scale, probably in the RC area, but not in plastic. There is plenty in 1/35 scale that you can find stuff for. I don't know if you want to go that way?

I'd be more inclined to go with the 1/35th scale.
Use the Tamiya M1025 as a base and get the Mig Productions M1114 update set. https://armorama.kitmaker.net/review/2695
Also, Pro-Art have a good set of radios etc http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/proart/pau35020.htm
and eduard do a 1/35 Rhino anti-ied thingy in PE. http://www.modelhobbies.co.uk/shop/eduard-rhino-anti-device-tp097-p-13615.html
Good Luck, and welcome to Armorama.

HI there,
I don't want to hijack this thread but my question fits in so I hope someone can answer me shortly.
What is the "Blue Force Tracker"? Is it some kind of friendly unit identification?
Thanks in advance!

To All,
Actually the Duke's "offiicial" name is Warlock Duke...
There are two types of RCIED devices out there in the US inventory. First the Army Systems AKA Warlock series Red, Green, Blue, Brown, Duke, etc. The Navy systems are called Channel ____ Systems. The Navy systems are named after trees - Spruce, Ironwood, etc. The ECM systems are called CREW (Counter Radio controlled improvised explosive device Electronic Warfare) Devices
The vehicles with the "thimble" shaped antenna is using a USMC ECM device, either the Chameleon or Hunter system. I do not have the official designation for the antenna itself... The ECM system sporting the antenna could be either a USMC vehicle or a US Army vehicle that is assigned to the USMC forces in Western Iraq.

Thanks for your input John. I've forgotten that this device was a USMC one (maybe it's because I've got some pics showing this antenna fitted to Bradleys...)

Well you're right. It's a "special device" (barbecue grill) we used to keep the locals guessing when we left the wire. Note postage stamp size of our COP.

Hey guys!
Thanks for all the great posts, pictures and replies! And, thank you Soldiers & Marines for what you do. I'm older now, and my only regret in life is not enlisting when I had the chance. I would love to have been a part of something so much bigger than me; to serve my Country. The respect, admiration and camaraderie you guys share could never match anything I could get anywhere else. I wish I could have been a part of something like that. THANKS!
Vince
