I’m currently working on a British Sherman in service in North Africa. According to the good folks at Bison Decals, at least some of these vehicles were painted in desert pink over olive drab schemes.

Does anyone know if Tamiya makes a “ready to use” acrylic in that shade? If not, can anyone tell me what colors to combine in order to achieve the correct tone – preferably Tamiya acrylics as those are the paints I have most readily available.

Thanks in advance,
Noah

Sorry but i cant find a mix for Tamiya paints. Liecolor has a Desert Pink. The number is UA230. It also comes in a set CS-16 British paint set. This place has it in stock. www.tankratsafvdepot.com Hope this helps. Might be better off buying the whole set.

I read that desert Pink was made by combining some red paint to some white paint.

From what i read they used red oxide primer and white to get the color. From the same source, the British number was 156-019 1942 middle east color. Suppose to help it blend in early in the morning and late in the evening

I highly recommend reviewing the MAFVA website for information on WWII British AFV colors:

http://www.mafva.net/other%20pages/Starmer%20camo.htm

The site includes color mixes using Humbrol enamels, but at least if offers a starting point.

Mike Starmer, the acknowledged expert on WWII British AFV colors, gave a less than glowing review of the Lifecolor paints:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/47208/message/1222805236/Lifecolor++set+6%3B+Middle+East+British+Vehicle+Camouflage+paints+set..

For Tamiya paint users, this post will help with just about everything accept desert pink:

For what it's worth, I had the same problem when the time came to paint my British Sherman III--I do not use Humbol enamels. I finally bit the bullet, ordered a bunch from Squadron, and mixed up the colors I needed as per the MAFVA website. I was pleasantly surprised.

Good luck!
