Ok I can imagine that this has been beat to death but I just bought the Tamiya German King Tiger regular production model and I bought Testers MM Acrylic in >> Panzer Dunkergelb , Panzer Schokoladenbraun and Panzer Olivgrun. I thought this might be easy to airbrush. Are these colors ok or should I look for say the Tamiya paint??
Thanks
Bill

You could do a lot of searching and find out which vehicles used a particular type of camo (I have an article from a Military Modelling magazine that gives info for a few in the Battle of the Bulge). Some of them, like the famous "332," apparently used the base red-oxide primer coat as part of the camo, in the place of the schokoladenbraun.

I know a lot of people like the Tamiya paints, but they don't match quite as closely out of the bottle as the MM line does. Sometimes MM curiously miss the boat on colors, but most of the time they are dead on.

Guys,
I have actually seen/touched the King tiger 332 in Belgium. It seemed to me to have a few coats of paint, and not all the right shade. The other side of the coin is how many King tigers are left around to see and touch! This tank has sunk into the blacktop about 4-6 inches and is just Huge for the time period.

I've seen the pics of 332, and, from what I have read, the colour scheme on it now doesn't quite reflect what it had in combat, but I'm not exactly an expert on these things.

I have bought the MM colors but I find (in my own opinion) that their dunklegleb is too green out of the bottle...so maybe just lighten it up a bit and that might help .. As for the colors for the KT it depends when you want to show it ..If you build it as an early model well they were covered in zimmerit and seemed to have left the factories in just the dark yellow base color..If you want to build a later production model ..then they were painted with stencils at the factory..this is where the "ambush scheme" began to appear..though not all had the spots ..ie: 332 ...there were also hard edge paint jobs ie:008 and soft edge paint jobs ie:222(soft)Most of these tanks seem to have used the red oxide primer as a base (depends on what book you read)There also seems to have been a month or two where a dark green was to be used as a base coat...So best thing to do is study some pictures and you descide
what colors go where ...If you want a good book that won't break the bank ..try and get a hold of Ospreys Kingtiger in the New Vanguard series ...If you need any help just e-mail me and I'll see if I can help ...got lots of books here (maybe too many ...lol)

Hey I appreciate all the opinions and help ! I think I'll give these MM Acrylics a shot and see what happens.. I got a machined barrel already and a couple of detal sets lined up in addition to a Cavilier zimmerit set. Man this is going to take awhile to put together BUT hey that's ok..never in a hurry around here anyway !
Thanks
