Ok here is my situation.

I'm getting ready to do my next project. Academy's M10 Gun Motor Carrage tank destroyer. The box art shows T51 style flat rubber tracks but the kit comes with the T49 style or maybe T47E1 since both are so similar.

Ok one of the options on this kit is for racks on the sides holding track grousers. Now I've looked through my references, Squadrons U.S. Tank Destroyers and Concords U.S. Tank Destroyers in Combat books, and every picture of tank destroyers with grousers have either the T51 rubber block track or a Chevron steel tread type of track link. The few pictures I've found of tank destoryers with the T49 / T47E1 track seem to be french and none of them have the rack fitted for the track Grousers.

My question is could the Track Grousers used with the T49/T47E1 style of track?

Thanks.

You pose a good question. Although grousers were really meant to be installed on flat rubber block tracks like the T41s and T51s, it's not unrealistic for them to be used with all steel tracks like the T49s or T47E1s. I have not found any clear pics which could be used to clarify this.
It's been my experience that there are exceptions to all rules in war time. Just when someone says "no way", someone else pops out a pic.

I have seen some pics of Shermans with the T48 rubber chevrons that also had the grousers on the tracks If you have Squadron Signals Sherman In Action On the first page is a shot of the 752nd Tank Battallion It' shows some M4A3's with the 76mm gun You can see the pic that shows the grousers on the T48 links
If you don't have that book get it It is a great book
