We need British NWE tank riders. This is getting ridiculous. We have all kinds of British soldiers, marching, or advancing, restocking tanks, standing around having cigarettes, but no tank riders. I just don’t get it. There are tons of photos showing them on tanks so justification is there. I know a crew was done in resin a few years back, but they were terrible conversions and I prefer to see plastic ones myself. British stuff sells! Just look at the fabulous stuff coming from MiniArt lately, as well as Master Box.

Sorry, just a little out of sorts today with seeing Hobby Fans latest releases.

Agreed Plastic british Tank riders would be great but resicast do some very good ones in resin.

Pure speculation on my part but I think we'll see some soon in plastic from Miniart or masterbox.

Can you list them?

I only know of three or four single figures from resicast and one out of production set from Cromwell models.

Resicast produces a set for the Kangaroo, and they are either climbing on which is good or not really in a position for placing on a moving Sherman or Churchill. It is A good set which I have, but when you consider all eight figures cost around $80.00 I'd much prefer plastic.

Thanks for the reminder though.

Hi Sean,

I know of only 4 infantry figures from Resicast. 2 of them can be bought as a set. The new carrier crew have possibilities but other than that Cromwell's OOP tank riders were the only other figs I know off.

The Resicast figs are fine for a parked vehicle but lack equipment and rifles and are in a more relaxed setting, not kitted up for battle.

Whilst we are on about it can we please have some more wounded and medics, lol, lol

Don't get me started my list is a long one lol, lol.

So, yes, I agree some British Tank Riders would be great.

I hope you all signed up for my more British Trucks please thread.

Alan;

The original Resicast release had 8 figures in the set. I have them here from around 1998 in one package. I believe the set was broken up as the price was a big deterrent.

Hi Sean,

Yes, I know the ones now, I wouldn't really call them tank riders, but I can see how they woudl have fitted in with parked vehicles.

I have used some of them myself.

What we need is 2 sets, one de-bussing from a tank in attack mode and one with the chaps piled on top, lol, lol.

Cheers

Hey guys,
I agree whole heartedly, we definitely need someone to produce a set of British/Commonwealth tank riders !!!
Here's the Resicast page with the figures Alan mentioned:

http://www.resicast.com/pages/35.513_to_35.519pag.html

Nice figures but a bit limited in poses.
Probably wishful thinking but it would be nice if some manufacturer did a set in summer kit and one in winter kit.
Maybe asking Santa will help !!
Cheers

A nice set of U.S Airborne tank riders would be nice as well. Suitable for both a U.S Sherman and a British Churchill.
I know Resicast does 3 of them which are quite nice, but a full compliment would be nice.

Not really suitable, We're talking about armed infantry with webbing.
Something like this

"Wow," is right! This is the kind of inspirational stuff that airplane modelers just do not "get." Being a figure sculptor, I cannot remark about kits, and rider sets, Gulf 11, but would like to share with you guys my admiration of the North Irish Horse [Is this a mechanized unit?], and Canadian Armored units such as the British Columbia Dragoons, Lord Strathcona's Horse, and The 8th Hussars, who, along with heroic infantry units such as The Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, and The Seaforth Highlanders, for example, advanced against Panther turrets and Nebelwerfers in the Liri valley of Italy, May 1944. Other fine units were involved in this impressive advance, including some Royal Tank units. My Uncle advanced with the First Armored Division, U.S.A., towards the Caesar Line, after breaking out of Anzio during this period. I am fascinated with the entire scene.

Does anyone have pictures of the turret-less Stuart tanks [M3A3?] used in this campaign?

Why not start a seperate thread with turret-less Stuart tanks in the title, IIRC Steve Zaloga did an article in the Military Modelling Mag- maybe someone has that.

Martyn - no worries I just hate to think of someone reading this thread and searching all those manufacturers in vain for Tank Riders.

Rick all those pics are from the IWM archive online.

One of the problems with sculpting tank riders is the the 37 pattern webbing Universal pouches bend and crease oddly when a figure is crouched over so each pouch would have to be sculpted individually.
