FS-24087. The chip is a very dark, semi-gloss color, but you would need to lighten it for scale effect. This color standard is found in the FS-595a color books, but that chip is no longer in the the FS-595b book, I gather.
Cold War veterans report that some units added black to the basic Olive Drab paint at the whim of the commanding officers, simply because they liked the look, and that seems to be borne out in photos. The last few OD M60A1 tanks I photographed at Fort Carson Colorado in 1975 (the Division was nearly done repainting tanks and other equipment in the four-color MERDC scheme) were quite dark--the shade reminded me of Luftwaffe Black Green.
I would concur that the Japanese Olive Drab is probably a good choice for the 1960's and 70's.

Considerable effort has been expended on this by my fellow full-size vehicle collectors and myself.

The Vietnam color, as previously mentioned, was FS-595A 24087 - the same color exists today as FS-595B 24084.

The reason for the number change could fill the biggest part of a typed page.

David Doyle
