Hi,

I have just completed my Opel blitz (S model), with Afrika colors and palm trees markings.


I am very tempted to load a 2cm Flakvierling onto the 3.5 ton truck (i.e. the 4 barrel tamiya one), simply because the newer single barrel Flak 38 kit (commonly seen modelled with Opel truck) is way to expensive (cheapskate trill!!!)

a) However, I heard on net that the 4 barrel flakvierling is way too heavy for a small 3.5 ton truck, is this true? Upon searching the net, there is one picture but some say its a heavier tonnage opel, not the smaller 3.5ton version

b) If an opel blitz cant carry the 4 barrel flakvierling, can an opel maultier do the job?

a.) Not sure. I wouldn't think the weight of the flakvierling plus its ammo load and crew would go over 3.5 tons, but I havn't looked into it before

b.)Most definitely. The tracks would spread the weight out even more on the maultier than on the opel blitz. The panzerwerfer 42 auf maultier was an armored variant of the maultier that mounted a 10 barrel rocket launcher of 150mm caliber. If that could be put on the back of an already armored maultier, I see no reason it couldn't handle a flakvierling

It seems to me that think the picture below shows the very same truck (with sand bags all around and a tarp on the cab). If so it's a heavier Mercedes L4500 (new Zvezda release ) :

I would also believe the Opel Blitz would be to small to carry the Flakvierling, but in war some strange contraptions are made out of necessity.

Hahaha, fantastic find!

We had our WIP meeting at the scale model club this Friday and I bought an old Tamiya Flakvierling box. Pfew, it sure shows its age. Been looking at an upgrade from Lion Roar, but it's a bit crazy (upgrade and especially pricewise). Maybe when a dozen other models are finished.
