Here is my basic plan, all the ground will be sand:
So what do you guys think, Any Comments or Suggestions would be appreciated

Instead of some Brit Soldiers directing/ground guiding, maybe have one actually taking a picture of the two tanks like your inspiration?

Angle the vehicles on the base........don't put them parallel to the edges on such a barren area.
You should consider changing the elevation also.....maybe have the challenger pulling the Type 69 out of a ditch or a dug in position?
A diorama should tell a story.....what is the story? In the photo you posted there is no real story.....simply one tank stopped in front of another tank.......make it a story.
If it is a captured tank then consider draping a big Union Jack flag on the Iraqi tank......maybe some 115 mm rounds on the ground....fill in the empty spaces of barren sand.
Why would there be a road sign in the middle of sand? Maybe make it the edge of a paved road at another angle where the Challenger 2 is headed? Maybe consider having the Challenger 2 pulling the Type 69 over a damage metal guard rail?
Why is the Challenger 2 towing the Type 69?.....this doesn't happen in combat......only after fighting subsides.........maybe consider having the engine deck hatches open on the Type 69 to convey that it can't move under its own power?
Make it your story about the 2 tanks.

To take it one step further
What if the T-69 is dug in? Like this King and Countrys Diecast:
I heard the Iraqis used to do it, might look cool

You off to a good start........now run with it.

If you need to have a reason for Chally to be towing the T69, have the T69 blocking the road with some debris showing it was a road block and has now been knocked out.
