Have the 470 but would like to know when doing fine line do you thin the paint a great deal and reduce pressure or the opposite, whats the conventional wisdom?

Well, this is a difficult question to answer without more specifics.
If you want a truly fine line with the Aztec, then I recommend the Tan colored nozzle, single action, enamel paint thinned about 50/50, and low PSI. (as low as you can go without affecting the paint flow)

I'm with didiumus on this. The only difference is that I generally use Tamiya acrylics diluted at 60/70% thinner to 40//30% paint...
