Could I use this engine set in an iraqi T-69:
It is only $15 and looks like a good first resin kit
Thanks
Evan

Yes, it should fit ok. You may need to sand or cut it to get it to fit since it is designed for the Tamiya T-55 though. It may not be exact, but will look close since the Chinese use a copy of the Russian engine in the Type 69.

Great!!!
With a kit like this (Drop in) is there a lot of cutting and gluing?

I'd stay far away from it, unless you're willing to do a LOT of work to it. First off, the fan is incorrectly tilted rearward, on the same plane as the rear armor plate. This is hard to fix, but can be done.
Second, the cylinder heads are spaced way too far apart. This is almost impossible to fix. There are a lot of better options out there.

I have used a similar set for the T-62, and once installed the little nuances did not worry me
I have installed the fuel lines since these pics were taken.

Nice job, however, since the rear plate on the T-62 is vertical, the T-62 set worked out for it, even though they still used the same engine with the spaced out cylinder heads.
On the T-55, the angle of the fan is so noticeably off, it either has to be fixed or hidden.
I chose to fix it, but that requires grinding out the resin fan scratchbuilding a new one. I'll take a pic later.
On the T-62, I just decided to scratch the fuel tank and fan (quickly, as it doesn't really show) and add the very nice engine from the Trumpeter Chinese Type 89, though not shwn here:

I see your point about the fan. I'm assuming that it's one large block of resin? That would be a PITA to sort out.
I did like the CMK offering alot better.

put bold text here
I was going to suggest that route- the Trumpeter engine is rerally quite nice and has alot of detail. I am not sure about the technical stuff, but it looks the part.

Just like most resin kits/conversions, test fit, test fit, test fit. Test fit all the adjoining parts as well, upper hull, engine deck and such. And when your ready to glue,....test fit again LOL.
You'll probably have to do some minor trimming to the inside of the Tamiya hull to set it in there, but it should be minor.
As well when you get it done it would be benificial for the Armorama family here if you would right a review of this conversion. Just a thought
